Weight loss on your own?

I can't remember the first time I looked in a mirror and thought, wow I'm fat, I've been fat since I was a teen :(

I think that's it .. I have always been a "big girl" or at least I was always told I was. That's a lot of years of mind conditioning to unravel... 52 years of it in my case!

I turned 50 in July :) Hard to believe when I was about 6 my mam took me to the doctors as I was so tiny and underweight  Not sure what happened between then and the age of 12 went I was aware of being over weight, as we had proper cooked meals and never junk food, my brother grew up (6ft 2) and I grew out :D

Scales should come with health warning IMO :p
If I was totally honest though I was "happy" to yoyo between 13st and 17st because I had an element of control & could lose the excess weight with comparative ease if I really put my mind to it. I started to lose control at 18st and once ill health really kicked in I was on a very rapid slippy slope :(.
In today's age of bariatric surgery I would have easily qualified for a bypass even at 16st & given that my most of my co morbidities were in existence even at that time had i been offered it I would have grabbed it with both hands even then... Problem is I don't think I was mentally in the right place to accept that it needs a lot of hard work on my part ;)

I was the smallest of my 3 siblings with a birth weight of 6lb 11oz. They weighed in at 9lbs upwards. I grew outward and upward from the on :p

The first time I joined Weightwatchers I was horrified at being 13 stone! I wish I weighed that now.

I manage to lose 3 and a half stone 5 years ago, but like most on here, I simply couldn't keep the weight off. It's all gone back on, plus another stone for good measure :-(

I loved being a slim size 12 though, and I hope that when I lose the weight this time, it will be for good.

I've made the decision that I'm done with diets forever, and I cannot wait for the band to be fitted so I can start a whole new - and much healthier - relationship with food.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

This is something I find very difficult - I know we all have to work just as hard and that we are all here for the same reason. But I can't help a little pang of heartbreak every time someone reaches target. I am thrilled for them - genuinely. But a part of me feels so painfully sad for myself that I still have such a long road to walk.

It maybe a long road but you have already come so far along the path, plus its step by step and one day you will be at target, you have done so well and are such an inspiration :)

I lost 4 stone on weight watcher when I was 16 stone. Then put 6 stone on. Then lost 6 stone on the Cambridge diet when I was 23 stone and then put 7.5 on. Waist of time I can lose it but can't keep it off.
I asked about a bypass about 5 years ago and the doctors said oh it take 2 years and is not worth it. So I did the Cambridge and it worked great. I lost 6 stone is about 18 weeks but as soon as I was back on real food it started to go on again.
The new doctors said good idea and put me forward for the bypass.
Why didn't I insist 5 years ago. Oh well.

It is a shame - I think some doctors can be quite prejudiced against bariatric surgery.

Yvessa u have done so well! It's amazing. How much more do u need/won't to lose?

I need to lose 10st :( better then the 15 I had to start with tho. X

I too are looking at around a 10st loss :(

I have lost 6 stone and another 6 stone to go.

It's so daunting at the beginning of a normal diet to think you will have to be on a 'Diet' for about 2 years to lose 12 stone.

So why when I had the bypass and its for LIFE is it not as daunting. We can never eat normally again, not just a couple of years.

I feel relief I think that I will always have the restriction either amount of food or dumping to keep me inline.
Thanks god for surgery.

Thank you hon, and you're not wrong - this is all stuff I know and I won't ever give up. But its still hard some days.

Thank you :) I would like another 4.5 stone off at least. And then we'll see :)
