WHAT ARE PORTS ?????????????????????

hi a port is the place the surgeon fills the band with saline every so often to restrict you with your food intake think of it as a rachet tie that can be inflated to make the top of your stomach smaller therefore restricting the food down to your stomach!

The port is the surgeon's access point to adjusting the band, it can be placed in a number of locations, it is usually sewn to the abdominal wall under the skin.

The ring to the left of the picture is the band itself, and this is placed round the top of stomach to restrict food, the other end of the device, with the blue disc is the port.

Once you have healed, the port can be felt under the skin, mine feels like a nut with a flat surface. I am only ever aware of it, if I look for it. The incision near the port is often the one that takes the longest to heal, as it is about 2.5 cms, compared to the others that are only just a centimetre.

My scars have all but disappeared.

A port is a place a ship docks, and a port hole is a small round window in the side of a ship
