What food and drink tastes

I read somewhere about your taste in food and drink changing once you have surgery? Has everyone has changes in food that they once hated and started to hate food they liked before?

I did at first - hated water (used to love it) hated tea (likewise) couldn't stand salty food or too sweet food.
Things are getting a bit more back to 'normal' now (5 months post-op), but I still can't stand butter, anything deep fried such as fish n chips...(not that I've tried it, but the sheer thought makes me gag) or anything too sweet.

I love salad which i didn't much like before. And cottage cheese too, which I hated before.

For the first week or so post op i didn't enjoy a cup of tea, didn't want one tbh, but then all of a sudden one day got up and craved my morning brew...

Chips, chips, chips. God i loved chips, i worked in a cracking chip shop for 20+ years and never lost the love but enjoyed many free leftovers... Now chips just turn my stomach, i fetched some for the family the other day and the smell in the shop was disgusting, the grease i could smell, yuk yuk... This has nothing to do with a fear of dumping as i don't dump. Once or twice i've pinched one off the kids, usually whilst driving and enjoyed the odd one, but no way i could go buy some for me...

I'm no longer obsessed with chocolate now either. Was a time i couldn't go in a shop without buying a bar and if there was a special offer i'd think, hmmm 3 for 2 i'll buy that and give my 2 girls one (choc is a treat in our house) and then before i knew it i'd have eaten the lot... No longer!

I must admit i do enjoy an egg custard tart now, but as i don't drink, smoke and don't eat rubbish anymore i justify it by telling myself it's egg n milk which is good for me :)

Was a huge carnivore before, now, well it's not the taste that puts me off it's what it does to me. Makes my stomach gargle if I have too much.

Veg, before, forget it, now I like it lots more and try and eat more.

Salt, I crave for at times now!

Anything deep fried, the thought of it turns my stomach. Won't have fish and chips etc

I couldnt drink coffee post op but loved it before, I can now drink it again. Everything tastes really sweet, I have 1 sweetner now instead of 2 and NAS has to be watered right down. Like cheese now hated it before and thats it I think :D XX

My tastes have deffinatly changed. I loved egg, branston beans and pasta before and now i cant face them, they make me sick after one mouthful so i just stay away.

I'm not very keen on meat as that seems to have the same effect on me. I love fish though, esecially lemon sole with beef gravey (had it last night! yummmyyy!!)

I also had a craving for roasted parsnips the other night and tried one and found it delish! I hated parsnips before i had this. Im also loving bubble and squeek when i hated that before too.

Before i had this op i was obssessed with chocolate and anything sweet, if i didnt have chocolate somewhere in the house i would go crazy. Now, it just makes me cheeks tingle and is faaaar too sweet so i just dont enjoy it like i did. Which is a brilliant thing!! :) xxxxxxx

Had a quarter of a plain macflurry yesterday and didn't really enjoy it. Well, I liked the naughtiness of eating it and the cold crispness but not the taste, or the fear of dumping or the after-taste. Used to love them.

Also can't cope with white chocolate options now, makes me feel sick. Am okay with the other ones.

Jacki.

Mine hasnt changed too much but the main change has to be bread, i really dont enjoy it anymore but that can only be a good thing!!! Everything else seems the same to me but i have to agree with mixxy i do sometimes have a craving for salt! xxx

I just remembered I'm not at all keen on chocolate now (had 2 Quality Street yesterday to make sure and dumped! LOL) :17729::17729::17729:

and i can't bear bread either, I keep trying it every so often, but I just plain don't like it. I don't like what it does to me either; it makes me feel bloated and nauseous.

I'm another one with salt cravings. Also fruit, I eat so much more than I used to and can't believe I actually crave it - especially M & S fruit which just tasted amazing.

but I like the vodka too !!!

gone off all Chinese food where as i used to practically live on it.
never had a sweet tooth but now i have.

my tastes havent really changed that much, but ive become ultra sensitive to salt, ive never liked it, but now i can taste it in all sorts of things, even lancasthire cheese believe it or not, lol, and ive noticed that although i can eat bread, i do become very bloated if i have it and my stomach swells up for a few hours, so i try to avoid it now, and ive found i dont like cottage cheese as much as i used to, in fact i find it quite sickly now.
