What to do in Luton

I've two appointments on the 29th at Luton, one at 10.15am and one at 3pm. I don't know the area and was wondering if anyone can make any suggestions how we can spend the time between appointments, is there anything close to the hospital, any shopping centres within walking distance, areas of interest, etc. Normally we'd look for somewhere for a long leisurely lunch but that's out on this visit, the afternoon visit is with the dietician after the 4 week milk diet

you're pretty much stuck in the middle of nowhere dunstable downs is only 20 minutes away and luton town centre is about the same in the other direction
