Grateful bypasser
Unlike many here, there are lots of things I still can't eat, even though I am nearly a year out from my op. I can't eat a Sunday roast or fish and chips. I can eat a small portion of meat if it's in gravy and a small amount of veg with it. I can eat a small amount of fish, but not the batter. I do have quite marked restriction most of the time, but enjoy the food I do eat. I go for taste now, rather than volume.
To be honest, Kevin, these days I don't really focus on food in the same way as I did in my pre-op life. It's much more a case of eat to live rather than live to eat. And I was a total foodie!
Before my op, I worried that these kind of changes would have a negative impact on my life, but they don't. I still go out to eat with family and friends. Everyone is used to my eating now and no-one says anything
I do have a glass of wine at least once a week, but I have to sip it really slowly as it goes straight to my head (and probably, my liver!). I'm a really cheap date these days.
However big these changes are, I wouldn't swap my bypass for anything! I'm a 'normal' weight, I wear size 10-12 clothes, I'm fit, healthy, look good and I'm happy. Hopefully, I'm going to live longer than I would have done and get good use out of my new body.
Enjoy the journey!
