Whittington Hospital, London Anyone?

Hello Judy,
Nice to meet you and thankyou for your goodluck/well wishes.
Congratulations on your own surgery, would you mind sharing your experience from when you were first refered untill now? I think it helps and calms those who are waiting for their surgery to hear about other patients who have been through same experience.
Regards xx

Hi Pinklady and welcome!
yes you are right, that meeting will be a three hour education session with a group of around 10 other patients and the Bariatric nurse and dietician. It is to teach everyone about the different types of surgery that the whit offers and the pros and cons to each type. Also about the pathway to surgery. Meaning the steps that will need to taken. Also a q and a part where your questions can be anonymous. You will also receive an info pack at this time. The obesity surgery handbook became my bible!!! There is a break half way through. Think i covered it! Anything else i can help with, just ask away!!!

thanks amy so how long in total has it took you to get to where you are now? from my referal my doc sent it was only 2 weeks later that i got the appointment but ive read different story of how long or short the waiting game is, i was just wondering if there was a rough guideline as to how long it takes with the whittington hospital cos i know all are different
sorry to be a pain xxx

No probs! It depends on each person to be honest. Have you got your funding yet? Do you have any other health problems? I will have waited 11 months in total when i have my surgery next month.

well my BMI is over 50 and having problems with my knees giving way when im doing anything really , i was told( it says on their website) the hospital will apply for funding?? so dont know, should i look in to it also?
how do i find out how my local Primary Care Trust (PCT) as? iknow it might be a silly question but i havent got a clue and have been searching the net for over 2 hrs trying to find out who it is?

ok ive found out who it is but the criteria is : BuckinghamshireBMI over 50 with diabetes or severe dismobility due to obesity sufficient to affect essential activities of daily living and who have been receiving treatment which has included diet and exercise support, pharmacological therapy and counselling in a specialist obesity management service and failed to respond adequately. Access to surgery is only via specialist obesity management service.

fingerscrossed ill meet them but am a bit worried now but ill have to wait and see
should i contact them to see wot they say or wait for hospital?

I would suggest contacting your pct and ask them direct if you fulfil their criteria. Fingers crossed for you x

Thanks Brett, you are a star. And congratulations on your amazing loss so far. How much have you got to lose in total? Got pre op in morning and thinking thats when its really going to sink in and become real! My biggest problem is that i'm needle phobic and never had a drip before so thats really scaring me. Also the catheter, never had one of those either! Hope they do it when you are put out!!!

I have had a drip put in a few times now (I was in a bad car crash) and have to say it was never that bad. I think giving blood was far more painful.......guessing if you have a phobia of needles then you haven't done that but try not to worry. I know, easier said than done!!!

Good luck!!!

Newbie at Whittington

Hi all, I'm new to the site. Was looking for some more info from people who've had their ops at the Whit and came across the site. I'm under Sufi. Had my first appointment (with Heath) this week and have been referred for sleep study. Anyone else had this done? Wondering what goes on. Also wondering how long people have had to wait once on the waiting list - i've been told 8 weeks from then. Should go onto list on 2nd Nov so hoping it will be done in Jan. What do you guys reckon? Am I kidding myself?

Hey hun,
Is it the blood-test pre-op? I had mine on Thursday. Basically you have two sets of blood tests, an ECG (Get ready to get ya baps out!!!), and a quick chat with a lovely nurse who takes you through a few things and asks questions about your medical history (e.g. other surgeries, current health status etc). I think you'll be ok by yourself as they just give you the pre-op information and make you sign the contract for your date!

Hope that helps!!! When is your appointment? Have you had your op date yet??

Hi Lisa i 2 am under Mr Sufi and i am having my op on March 2nd, when are u booked in for x
