Why don't Long Termer's stay around ?

we won't hold our breaths lol x my hosp letter said I had to have my blood taken annually and results forwarded to them via my gp. A lot can happen in a year xx literally our lives in their hands. xx don't regret it though but I would have liked to be smaller. but these pains when they come boy do they come thank goodness for my saviour buscopan and now lansoprasole also, by the time I am 10 yrs post I will have a list of saviours lol xx

A silly question and please tell me to shut up but...

Are you ladies no longer under the care of your teams? I know I have had a few complications and I am a relative newbie at 10 months out but my GP has admitted that this is not his area of expertise. He is open to being led by the hospital. If I need meds or have any issues as a result of my surgery I never go to the GP.

I wish you well. xx

Another GP at my practise did say this to me too. On the timescale of the medical side bariatrics is a vey new concept to GP's and they are still struggling to take the concept and health issues on board. At least he was honest to admit it unlike my regular GP who is normally very good.
My care set up is really weird as my surgery was done under the NHS but in a private hospital. My final visit with them was last week at a year out & I now get handed over to the local bariatric team at the local NHS hospital where I will continue to see them for life apparently on a six month then yearly basis. There is no specialist dietician here and there is no funding to put one in place so I am choosing to do a dual care thing on the advice of my surgeon and my gut feeling. I will continue to see mr Stuart twice a year for now and my dietician there likewise but will still be seen by the NHS team here. I have come too far to put my hard work at risk by what is a partial and half assed team in forth valley.

I joined site two years ago and not been on here for ages as I read all the success stories and large weight losses and felt dejected. My loss has been good but have not lost as much as I wanted to. Now I have constant loose bowels and can't see it changing. It effects everything. Any suggestions please anybody. It has been good but not the fairytale I had dreamed of. Thanks for reading.

I'm still loving my bypass ..it's the lack of info that GP,s have gets to me mostly. Loose bowels yes I suffer this too but have identified that this is mostly caused by too much fat in my diet and a lactose intolerance. If I keep a rein on those I'm generally fine but then prone to constipation due to calcium supplements so have to take regular laxido to keep on top of that :sigh:

Frankie, I have my b12 every 12 weeks and my GPS are quite strict on that..
Something you mention about sleeping..my sleeping has never been the same since this bypass,it's just something I'm learning to live with now.
I can go bed,and get up several times throughout the night.
And regarding the b12,when I'm due my muscles really ache!
I do think as weightloss surgeries are becoming more done,I think all GPS should be given basic training and knowledge.
And I liked your rant!

Yes the B12 every 12weeks is a protocol thing ..my GP usually overrides this by giving it to me personally and not the nurse. I am now keeping a diary of my symptoms so that I have something I can work with when I need to argue my need for it every 8weeks although I feel the decline at 6. By the time I get there I'm so wooly headed I can't fight my corner well so if it's written down in black and white I have something to work with.. I hope!

Hello all, as a newbie still pre op hopefully awaiting confirmation from the mdt address seeing nutritionist next Friday.....I find it very encouraging to know that there are long term post oppers out there who obviously have moved on from the support frames but also others who remain. To me it just shows that different people need different support! I would say that your opinions do matter and I'd people are rude it's only because they didn't want to know the truth....

Hi lady Sarah :) fingers crossed for you. Good luck x
