Xenical/orlistat prior to surgery

At my appointment at Charing X hospital today, they want me to go on Xenical on the lead up to surgery. Is this normal?

I took xenical when it first came out and lost a lot of weight, but it all came back once I stopped taking it. Not keen to be honest, :sigh: but will go along with their suggestions. x

I guess it's one way to lose weight - particularly if it has worked in the past for you - even temporarily. Will you have to do another diet to shrink your liver or will the orlistat do for this?

Sounds odd to me, especially as you have tried it in the past. Your BMI is not that big to give them concerns about the op. Are there any other reasons why they want to reduce your weight considerably before the op?

Birmingham Heartlands wanted me to take it as well. In fact ordered me to and if I refused, they would deny me surgery. I tried it for a few weeks.
