Hi Sarah and welcoms to minis

I'm just under 1 year post bypass, and started my journey at 24.6 stone - when i went for my inital consultation i was certain i wanted a band, but hearing the stats and what the consultant said i changed my mind to a bypass, i'm pleased i did as i know now that the bypass was the right option for me.

Like others have said, go into it with an open mind, look at all the different procedures and the average statistics for weight lose long term ! listen to the consultant and between you i'm sure you will come to the right decision of whats right for you.

hi and welcome you will find this site so supportive. i chose to have a band i was 25 n half stone when i had mine fitted which i think is quiet a high weight for banding they do prefer to bypass i think when you are of a higher weight but for me it didnt feel the right option , just be honest with your surgical team and they will steer you in right direction

Welcome :) this is a great site, you will get answers and support on here.

I have my first appointment on Friday and dont know what to expect. I'm taking advice from the more experienced on here and just telling the truth (as bad as that is) about my eating habits.

Fingers crossed we wont wait too long for surgery, its all I'm thinking about now.

Amamda (fuze) you do not look like you have that much weight to lose, we still want to see you lol x

HA! my picture is very very deceiving as it is taken from above, its the only angle ill let people take a picture from hehehe. I think my goal is 15.5 stone lighter than I am now. But thank you for the complement!!!

Welcome =)

I'm also at the very start of my journey - my first appointment with a nurse at UCHL is in August - but I've already found this site to be invaluable. Everyone is just so friendly and eager to help you out and answer your questions or just give you kind, supportive words of encouragement. Good luck and keep us updated on everything that goes on!

Welcome to minis it is a fantastic supportive site.

I am still waiting for funding so haven't seen the surgeon yet but was adviced by the dr at obesity clinic to go for bypass. Good luck.

Hello Sarah, I only my had my first appointment at Walsall Manor about a month ago. I've thought about surgery for about the last 2 years and always told myself I could do it on my own. Then one day I thought who am I kidding you cant do it. I was really apprehensive, but know having talked it through with the staff at the Manor, I know that a Gastric Bypass is what I need to do. It just cant come quick enough now.

There seem to be some really great people on here. Ana the Bariatric Nurse sent me some details of a meeting somewhere over near Cannock next one is Sept., dont know if anyone on here goes, but I thought I would give it a try.

Hiya Sarah and welcome to minis. I to am from the westmidlands and was refered to walsall for my bypass. I wheighed 33 and a half stone. I went with the idea of a band but was advised to have a bypass because of the amount of wheight i need to loose. I had my bypass the 8th of March this year and have lost 7 and a half stone so far and do not regrett my decision at all. Yes it is daunting to think how much wheight we need to loose but don.t think of it in stones just give yourself small goals. Hopr this helps janey :D:D:D

It's so lovely to hear your story. No offense but i sometimes think i'm the only person in the world who has to put up with this load of mine, it gives me hope to hear that you went for it and have come out the other side ok and well. Was you given any advise about the anesthetic in relation to your weight, i must admit it's the bit that scares me the most? sarah x

Thanks everyone for all your comments of support. Having heard a few of you suggest the bypass due to my bmi being high, i have decided to give it some more thought. i'm nervous to consider the bypass, concerned for my fatality . Maybe to some that sounds silly x
