Anyone else feel like they are doomed to fail?

I was sleeved nearly 2 weeks ago, i've lost quite a bit, but i can already feel myself weakening and wanting to nibble, in the evenings especially. I've lost no weight for the last 4 or 5 days, and i am getting disheartened. Its starting to feel like every diet i've ever done. :(:sigh:
 
If you really need to nibble try and eat something healthy or a teeny amount of what you fancy.
I don't believe in totally denying yourself stuff forever because that makes life very dull....but by taking control and only having tiny portions of it occasionally you'll be fine I bet!
Also I wouldn't with yourself everyday, your weight can fluctuate so much from day to day...I'm sticking with a once a week weigh in, then if I've lost it should be a nice amount.

Aww Becky, please hun stop giving yourself a hard time. You had a bereavement, followed by a nightmare of issues, followed by major surgery. Let up on yourself a while, things will get easier. Besides you may want to snack and nibble but it certainly won't be as much as you had before and when you go over the top you will know about it and won't repeat it!

Can you get your GP to refer you to a dietician who can just support you through the early weeks? I've got some info sheets from mine I can copy to you when I get back it might help you.

But like everyone says, a stall is not a failure, it's just your body adjusting and boy does your body have alot to adjust to at the moment, emotionally and physically.

Thanks, i'll try to start weighing weekly, Mondays i think. I'm not meant to be eating yet, I'm meant to still be on liquids, so i know what i am doing is very wrong. xx

Thanks, I'll try to get to my gp this week, i need to tell him about my op anyway, but i think the list to see a dietician is very long. I'll probably be ok, i am just having a downer xxx
 
You're not alone becky! I was bypassed just over 2 weeks ago, and haven't lost any weight these last few days, and beginning to feel like I am actually hungry again, and so tempted to try and eat something even though I am only on the puree stage. I keep thinking maybe the bypass hasn't worked and all sorts of things. Hopefully this is just a stage to go through and things will look brighter as our bodies and our minds adjust to all of this xxx
 
It's clearly comfort eating that you're doing and who can blame you at the moment! Have you tried the little pots of hartley's sugar free jelly's, they are yummy.

Perhaps if you have to nibble something you know is wrong, try suck it for a long time and nibbling it to smithereens before swallowing. That will be better for your sleeve and might lessen what you perceive to be the bad part of doing it as you might eat less.

Or look for things you enjoy but are acceptable, I'm a very simple eater so can't help here, it would have to be jelly and yoghurt for me lol
 
When I wanna go on a binge, this is gonna sound silly but brush your teeth. I find it takes the edge off of it.

I am in the same boat - trying to beat the evening munchies. They are a habit rather than a hunger and I am trying a few things to beat them. The obvious one is finding other things to do. Pictures of the change on the fridge. One thing I read was going to bed later made the body crave foods to keep its energy up. Also as I don't snack at all I actually have four meals so I try and use the fourth meal to satisfy any cravings. If you absolutely have to have something, have some sugar free jelly and low fat yoghurt in the fridge. Hope this helps? If you want support message me on fb - we can do this together :)

Becky I don't know if the sleeve is similar to the bypass in the way it take time for you to feel the the full effects or not but thought I'd mention it just the same. In the early days everything is numb so you can't feel restriction and fullness like you will later on. It comes in stages and I'd say I didn't really start to feel it until I was 4 weeks post op, then more came around 8 weeks. Head hunger is a very real thing and seeing as you are going through a hard time anyway, coupled with post op/anaesthetic blues that is probably what you are feeling. I did for 3 or 4 weeks post op. Ways to combat it is to go for gentle walks and keep sipping water. Sometimes the feeling of needing to eat is dehydration anyway.
Weight wise what everyone said about weighing once a week is absolutely right. When I was weighing myself daily I often went up and down by a couple of pound over night. Even if you are not seeing it on the scales your fat cells are starting to break down inside your body and they will be flooding hormones into your system. This will make you more emotional, couple that with not being able to eat your emotional discomfort away, not feeling proper restriction yet and the other problems your having and it isn't easy is it? The early days are tough but it absolutely gets better and you wait until you start dropping those pounds, it makes it all worth it :)
Give yourself a break, you've been through a lot and all this is part of the recovery. It gets better I promise :) xx
 
When I get the cravings to nibble now I just start to drink nas Squash.

I get that sweet kick with out all the cals.
 
Me too, I drink nas squash all the time.......and I put some nectar powder in for a bit of extra protein. Good advice from everyone Becky, dont weigh every day, sip sip sip. And Believe.............you WILL lose..........I PROMISE!!
 
My advice would be to forget about the scales for at least a fortnight, get yourself into some routine, then go on to weigh yourself weekly. Everyone's body changes day by day, and you can even gain/lose a kilo in 24hrs just because of your body's balance.
The diet thing.... I agree with the 'a little of what you fancy...' method. As long as you incorporate it into your daily cals, don't substitute healthy, nutritional foods, it won't hurt. I would recommend you make a daily record of everything you eat though, so you can make sure you don't do it too often. My Fitness Pal is really good.
 
It's easy for us to say, but you need to find something to do in the evenings to take your mind off food. Or every time you feel hungry have a cup of tea with a sweetener xx

I think we are well aware of the post op diet but, as becky says, would prefer to eat what we should not. It is the same as on any diet = a kind of self punishment when things get us down for what ever reason. I had my op the same day as Becky and strangely I also would like to nibble at the moment but doubt I could if I tried. Today I have yearned at the smell of sausage rolls, why I do not know as I have never been fond of them. I only weigh once a week and that will be tomorrow morning at the same time that I weighed last week. Come on Becky this is going to work for us because if you eat you will bust your stitches.
The liquid diet is a bit boring as well so when we get onto the mashed food we can spice it up a bit. Not long now and that time will come

Don't think hunger pangs are the problem and Becky's in the right place for the support she needs, it's better to get advice from others who have been in the same situation rather than from a medical team imo anyway.

Your right Becky does need support, but we all got here because of over eating so she is supposed to be on liquids for a reason hence the mention of the team.

Wrap it up anyway you like but at the end of the day, eating what you ain't supposed to isn't going to help your health or recovery. Victoria x
