Morning Girlies and Gents,

My arms have become beyond repair with exercise they are looking horrendous and extremely droopy. In fact I look like a flying squirrel. Has any body had an arm lift or plans too ? Do you know how much it costs ?

Thanks :) x

Had it done 2 years ago and very pleased with the results. I had it done with other procedures so can't be certain how much the single op is now but then it would have been £5500 as a stand alone procedure

Think mine are going to be the same, lost 6 stone in 4 months, still got about 3/4 to go, but my bingo wings are awful. I thought I could hide them under clothes but I have a tight armed top on today and I can still see it all swinging!
I can hide everything else, tummy, legs etc, but can't hide your arms, especially in summer.

However I was thinking, I would want to hide my arms after the op too because of the scars?!?

Dilema!

I too will need this op and am worried about scars. If they were on the inside of my arms I wouldn't worry so much but I know someone whose scars ran down the back of their arms and I'm not sure about that. I'm keeping an eye on my tummy scars to see how they fade!

There's a few vids on youtube of people who have had it done and the scar starts from the armpit and ends a little before the elbow. I don't think the scars are that bad and I'd prefer them.

I think i'm really going to want my legs and arms done.

This will be my first surgery when I get to goal. I'll need a tummy tuck and boob lift too but this one is the most import to me because the tops of my arms were huge, and now they hang down so far I can fold the skin in half. I've seen someone's scars who had it done and they were just small lines that had faded. Not noticeable really. I would much rather the scars than what I have now. I can never wear sleeveless tops and have to wear little cardigans all the time even if I'm somewhere hot and when I swim I have to be careful not to lift my arm up until I'm in the water or people stare :( I hate it and can't wait for the op. I've heard it is a bit painful but again worth it and when I've looked in to it it is around £5000.

The scars are very big. My DH thinks that the batwings are not as bad as the scars would be. I disagree. I have hated my arms since I was a teenager. Even when I was slim and an athlete I was conscious about them as they were so big and muscly I couldn't fit in fitted tops and dresses. They made me feel very masculine. At 5ft 10ins I was painfully embarrassed about my height and always felt I was mansize. A lot of my weight issues stem back to these issues. Now I have lost the weight but still have massive arms that now flap about. I feel desperate to get rid of them. I wake myself in the night clawing at them.- think they are are my mind all the time. It is partly vanity but more a real hatred of a body part.
Not everyone can cope with the idea of such big scars, or indeed the pain of this op. For me however, bring on the scars. All I need now is £5,500.

The scars in my case are even bigger they run right across my armpit and down my side towards but not quite reaching my bust line. They run down below my elbow by about 2 inches. They are fading 2 years on but are still noticeable but heck I don't care at all. Losing 23 stones I had bingo wings large enough to house a small family in. My surgeon was reluctant to go far below the elbow but I really wanted to go right down to my wrists as the arms sag there still but cannot find anyone that does this surgery.

To get to the reality of plastics any of the procedures will bring scarring and it is very extensive don't ever doubt that. The surgeons do their best to try to locate them in skin fold or on the inside but they are there and bodies heal very differently. The scars do fade but again how much seems individual too. The extended tummy tuck I had 2 years ago at the same time as my arms has really faded to a fine white line and is barely noticeable but my arms are still slightly red. My surgeon also stressed that this is skin not material they are working with. They cut freehand and can't press the seams afterwards and sometimes the skin pulls if not apart then stretching the scar. If you do have a burst in the wound it is likely that area will scar wider and be more red and not fade as well. Also scars for areas that are well used and subject to gravity such as thighs will affect the scarring. For example my thigh lift used cuts in the groin as well as spirralling right round my thighs to the knees but the groin scars have dropped and I would not wear a swimming cossy but recently have found some great ones with a tiny skirt which just cover the scars so you can cope. Do I care? well no I don't I am scarred all over having had 2 knee replacements recently, would I choose to have the plastics again? You bet I would I hated the loose skin. I was incredibly lucky none of my surgeries caused me any major pain although I know others have had differing experiences but honestly mine did not.

Good luck to anyone who can get it done it is so the icing on the wls cake even if it is painful, well so is having a baby and we go on and have more of them!!!!

Ditto - look on youtube. I've already looked and there are useful videos on there of cosmetics after weight loss. The scar runs from the armpit down the the elbow as far as I remember. I think it's worth it as the scar will be on the inner part of your arm and will fade over time. It looks quite red at the start - as most scars do. I think it's worth doing personally :)

I took a look on you tube it was so helpful. I've definitely decided scars over wings !!!! :)

One other question is when ? Do I wait until I hit my goal weight which I'm 2st 3lbs away from or would I be ok to do it now ?

Xxx

If it was me I would wait until I was at goal. You don't want to pay all that money and go through recovery and then find in minus two stone it's looking a bit loose again and you wish you had waited... But maybe some other people who had the surgery done before getting to goal can share their experiences?! x x

Ps looking fab in your avatar piccy ;)

They like you to have been at a stable weight for at least 2 years before plastics

M

That's NHS criteria isn't it though? Rather than private? I'm guessing they do that to make sure you can maintain your weight and that you're worth the investment?!

You can have it done whenever privately but I suspect it's best to wait until you're at goal. Nhs wait 2 years to check you are stable.

Just did a quick google for you. Private surgeons seem to recommend about six months of weight stability and to get to goal before having any surgery done... x x

When I went for my last fill just after Xmas, I was talking about this with the nurse, she said to me that to get to goal and wait for about 6 months and then look into having any plastics done that I may wish. I still have an awful long way to go, but Looking at the amount of skin I have on my arms and thighs already with only about 45% of weight loss I can see it being something I will need.

They do like a stable weight to make sure you don't lose/gain which affects the result but also because you're body shape and weight distribution does change for a few months even when you've stabilized. The amount of spring back people get is also variable. However, I've contacted a surgeon in Belgium ( because it's cheaper there) and he told me he had never heard of having to wait so I guess , like the advice post -op regarding bariatric diet, each surgeon/PCT have different ideas.
If I could have mine done tomorrow I would. I feel the older I get the less well the body heals.

I will most likely get my arms done abroad to save money, not the tummy tuck though, even though it cost more I'm more worried about travelling after that and needing after care. The lady that I mentioned earlier that had hers done in Belgium and hers was very successful. I must ask her for her surgeons name. I'm going to wait until at goal for a while, even though it will be hard to wait.
