Hi just wondered how long until I can take my dressing off and have a shower ? I'm 5 days post op thank you xxxxxx

My booklet that I got from my hospital says 4-6 days...My nurse told me upon being discharged, Shower but try not to get them too wet, and then after 5-6 days take dressings off, but steri strips to leave on until they naturally fall off (if you have any, not everyone has them)....

They put waterproof ones on mine so I could have a shower straight away and was told to take them off after 5days since discharge, mine were glued aswell

Oh mine were glued too, but with steri strips there to hold them in place....

My dressings were partly waterproof....

I took them off had a shower and just stuck plasters over them , they look ok at the moment xx

What's it like under the plasters is it scabby? Mines feel all lumpy and dry underneath. Xxx

There are dry and scabby and a bit bumpy but not to bad , oh and I've got a a stitch hanging out of one of them xx

I came out of hospital with only steri strips and was told I could shower when i got home and to pat dry the wounds.

Hi

My dressings where water proof, I even had a shower in the hospital the day after surgery. They where all taken off after six days as well.

I'm glad I found this thread. I need to shower today but I'm debating whether I should take the dressings off. It's my 4th day post-op and I was also told 3-5 days. I was thinking of using some kitchen wrap to wrap my upper love handle where the incisions are and keep the area dry. Silly but I'm filthy and going to a concert this eve (classical music, taking it easy lol).

They glued me together, not a dressing in sight! Had a shower at the hospital in the morning after my op. I wonder why they don't all use glue???

I wish mine had used glue. The result is as good as if not better than the other wound closing materials and you can shower!

I had mine glued and then stapled with clips all along....I look like I have track marks either side of my actual incisions but I'm hoping they go soon!

They took the dressings off after ten days but before that I had a shower but just tried really carefully not to get them wet, also by balancing a tea towel over my belly whilst showering lol!

The morning after my op the surgeon said I could have a shower but I had my drip on so didn't bother until I was home on the fri as I had asked for some water proof plasters from the hospital.
