Filling Breakfasts

Hi everyone,

I cannot function unless I have a good breakfast in me which usually consists of a poached egg and a slice of nimble

Im really paranoid about putting on weight cos I havn't hit my 'sweet spot' yet!

I had 3 ryvita crackers with philadelphia chive light this morning and im starving, they just dont fill me at all, it was roughly 100 cals for all of this, cereal doesn't fill me much either

I dont want to be having eggs everyday as surely this cant be good for you or is it?

Has anyone any ideas on what would be a good breakfast for me?

Hmmm I know what you mean about the eggs, that's what I have every morning (scrambled with a bit of grated cheese) as they seem to be the only thing that fill me up. Will be interested to hear any alternatives!!!

Im not a bander but how about porridge - oats so simple - plain one? Can jazz it up with some dried fruit and cinnamon and pre surgery, that kept me going all morning

I would have ham and some grated cheese in my omelettes but to be honest I struggle with eggs without some toast (nimble) and I am trying to cut out bread :sigh: I hate porridge :yuk: so im really lost on what to eat that will fill me up

Not going to be much help here but I could not eat a filling breakfast couldnt pre band either unless it was very late in the morning. I think my restrcition must be very tight first thing so I usually delay breakfast til mid morning. However if I am working a way and staying at a hotel then I do have a cooked breakfast of a tablespoon of beans and a tablespoon of scrambled eggs. I cant eat it all but it fills me up, on these days I normally have a slim fast as a meal replacement at lunch time, otherwise due to the nature of my work I wouldnt get a chance to eat anything.

Eggs are good for you but if you have problems with your cholestorol levels then you may be advised to cut down on them.

I tried scrambled eggs and beans the other morning and boy did it kill me, I had to take a drink of coke to bring them back up, the pain was awful.

I was always a breakfast person even before my op, I cant imagine it being any different! but I cant wait to have restriction so I dont need to be worrying about what to have!

Branflakes, museli, porrige, youghurt on weetabix, are all heathly filling breakfasts.

Poor you, thats not good. Would of thought beans and scrambled egg would go down ok.

I wish I was a brekkie person, it supposed to be the most important meal of the day

:yuk: :yuk: :yuk: and :yuk: Sorry Liz but I just couldn't eat any of those

If I had a weetabix it would have to be down me in 5 secs, the minute it goes soggy it goes in the bin so because we cant eat fast I wouldn't be able to take it :sigh:

hi kate, sounds like your being very picky, banders that cant change there ways or tastes tend to struggle alot as banding is a change of lifestyle and you sound very reluctant to change your eating habbits which will slow weight loss at some point no matter how tight your band is, what will you eat when your band wont allow eggs and toast through when you experience real restriction ? this is where you need to start adapting to a more varied menu more or your going to find this process a very hard one.
good luck

I have changed my eating habits big time and I'm not reluctant to change my ways of eating, I think i've done a pretty good job so far with loosing 21lb's!!

I cant force myself to eat something I have never liked, just because I got a band doesn't mean im suddenly going to like porridge and weetabix etc

I dont know what I will eat once i've got restriction, i'll not know until that happens but im sure i'll find something whether it be spagetti hoops or crackers etc who knows its all about trial & error

I was just asking for ideas for 'now'

Kate :)

beans on nimble? (ww heinz beans of course) - try wholemeal instead of nimble - wholemeal breads are slow energy releases.

Mid morning snack - banana or apple

Drink loads of water - can stave off hunger.

I eat fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. Have you tried this?

I have eggs everyday so I don't know why you can't have eggs for breakfast. It is a good source of protein. Unless you have been advised against it I would stick with the eggs for 'now'.

Sorry I can't really help on this one as I'm a cereal (yes and serial!!) eater. Didn't want to read and run and if the truth be told was looking for ideas for me as well. Just had a thought - what about protein drinks?

Would that be like the protein drinks you get at the gym, my gym do a gorgeous vanilla one?

I've never been a cereal person, always beans & toast, scrambled egg & toast, bacon & toast, poched egg & toast etc but im trying to cut out bread so eggs on their own doesn't go down too nice!!

Hi Caroline, its nimble wholemeal that I take, i've never taken white bread I dont like it.

I took beans the other day and they got stuck  which I thought was strange, I thought they would have been ok!

I loved bananas before my op and took one about a week ago and it made me sick, it didn't agree with my tum at all, would an apple not get stuck, was afraid to try them!

you could try them mini weetabix Put milk in bowl pop on mini in eat that one then pop another one in carry on till you have had enough lol. You could try stewing some apple that might go down better

No I wasn't advised against eggs its just something I heard about cholesterol and eggs so thought it might be bad to have them everyday!

Unfortunately I have never liked yoghurts, tried them on my liquid post op and they made me feel sick which is a pity as my fridge is always full of them for the children
