I'm one week shy of being six month post op. Whilst at the library last week, I came across a book called "Cut Down to Size" by Jenny Radcliffe. Wow. This book is so informative! I'm only page 82 and already I feel that I have learned so much about so many aspects of WLS. I can't fault my surgeon for giving me what feels like a new life, but the lack of support, dire nutritional info and confusing and conflicting advice that differs from one hospital to another is unforgivable really.
Even on here when well meaning people say "see your service provider" it really is pot luck where your service provider is based. I do believe that the surgery on the NHS is second to none, but in my experience getting information before and after is poor. I felt it a case of beggars can't be choosers
Back to the book! The only reason i mentioned this book is that it's definitely worth a read if you are considering wls, having wls or had wls. It has been so useful and answered so many questions that I wish I had the opportunity to ask. Its very thorough but written in a very easy to follow informative manner. I'd of been happy to of been given the book by my bariatric nurse and only turn-up for my op. its been so useful.
My last two outpatient appointments were a joke. They didn't have my records, no access to a dietician and the nurse that saw me asked if I was waiting for my operation - talk about a kick in the teeth as I'd lost over 200lbs . They didn't know what surgery I had, how much I weighed prior to surgery. :sigh:
I hope my experience is not widespread and as I mentioned above the surgery itself, I believe, has saved my life so all is well at the end of the day. I just thought I'd give you all the heads-up about this book as I have found it so enlightening.
