Hello there , im Paul , 52 , and counting down the days to my new life !! Hoping to learn alot on here to make my journey as easy and as enjoyable as possible ........so any help is much appreciated .....thanks

Welcome to a very good site, lots of support and information. :) what surgery are you thinking of having done, where do you come from.

Thankyou , I come from Bedford and im due to have a Gastric bypass at the end of March , The hospital themselves put me on to this group because of its helpfulness and information . Im Asthmatic and suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmanary Disease (COPD) too and having been on Oral Steroids for many years the weight has just piled on , im hoping surgery will ease my breathing no end , Also with weight gain my joints have taken a pounding too and with the steroids as well iv got Osteopenia too so walking or even general movement is very painful , another thing im hoping weight loss will make easier .

Hello Paul - sounds like you've got some challenges with you health which should improve following surgery. I haven't had surgery yet - probably April/May but like you I hope it makes life much easier overall. Good luck for March.

Hi Paul we are about the same age, I had my Bypass in Nov 2013 and have lost half my body weight (just over 11st)

Good luck with everything this is indeed a brilliant site for help support and information.

I'd say no to the football tbh especially if it involves walking or standing at all, I had no pain nor did I feel ill but I was weak and tired due to both the operation and due to the lack of food.

I didn't feel hungry at all, as for the craving side of it don't rush through the stages they don't last long, and how much will you lose?? I lost around a stone a month for the first 8 months of so then its slowed down bit by bit now at 15 months out I'm losing around 3 or 4lbs a month :)

Welcome to the forum. Ooh not long to wait for your bypass. I'm due to have mine around April. Can't wait :)

Hi Paul and welcome, I too am due for a bypass March 24th at Whittington in London, good luck with everything x

Hi I'm bypassed and my weight has come of slowly. I've been very tired and I have had a number of dumping episodes, I suffer with my joints and I think my weight would come of quicker if I could walk better. You need to take time to recover and I agree the football might be a bit much for you to start with, you'd be better staying at home. I felt a bit like I'd been beaten up after surgery and suffered with shoulder pain. Buy some peppermint oil to dip in hot water it helps shift the wind after surgery. A mouth spray to stop your mouth becoming to dry while you get used to drinking enough water or other liquid.

Many thanks ,.........looks like the footie might be out of the question then so soon , there will be other games , want to do everything correct !

A lot of people loose their appetite in the first year, mine certainly did....but then the hunger returns.
Get yourself organised and ready for your bypass....food equipment etc.
Just have a good read on this site....I had my bypass done almost 4 and half years ago,and if I remember right walking round was fine,no lifting, just take it easy.
So you may find you'll be ok if your just standing at football, the hospital advised me to move around rather than stay put in bed to prevent any blood clots.

Hi Paul :welcome:

I'm new here and am only just beginning my journey - first hospital appointment in March :)

Its good to have a forum to come to where you can ask away anything you want and the cheery helpful folk fully understand where you're at. Ive found it to be a great support already - I'm sure you will too.

Good luck with your surgery, keep us posted :)

Hi SJ,

I'm sure we've bumped into each other around the forum over the last couple of weeks, I remember your username around & about :)

I'm in Cornwall, so am under Treliske (aka. Royal Cornwall Hospital) in Truro.

Where are you?
