im new

If you go to the site you will get more information worth a look but don't leave us that's not what I'm promoting. :)

Hi Paul,

I read of someone cooking from Slimming World recipe books - you would have to check it out though. I'm only at the beginning of my journey so haven't researched it yet to ensure this would be good/bad/indifferent..... And maybe other slimming recipe books may be OK? I have a Weight Watchers recipe book in my kitchen - I need to check out if it will be appropriate to use for my journey. Maybe you could let us know if you find out anything???

Meanwhile, I just did a quick search on here (if you click on the "search" tab along the top of each page, a drop down menu appears, click on "advanced" and you can enter key words to search the entire forum).
Anyway, I searched "recipes" and found a thread by WeightlossDreamer who has put up a few recipes:

http://www.wlsurgery.com/wls-recipes-forum/155067-my-recipes.html

(Admin: I know giving links to other forums or sites is forbidden within the rules, but I hope giving links to threads within the forum is OK...?????)

Also, it may pay to start your own thread to ask if anyone can recommend any cook books or perhaps share recipes. I suggest you put it in the "Post Op Diet" section so people can find it easily.

Good luck :)

I hope I haven't broken the rules because it has been mentioned before if I have broken the rules admin please just remove much apprenticeship

Thanks for help , hope I havent got anyone in trouble , not my intention at all !! Very pleased with how this site is going so far , very informative , friendly and quick replying , im sure you all are going to be a great help and friend on my journey .....cant wait xx

Hello out there , iv got 2 questions perhaps somebody out there could answer for me please , since finding out im having surgery on March 23rd im really happy , and obviously told family and friends , and they all ask the same 2 questions (1) Will I be left with lots of loose skin especially around the stomach , and is there any exercises or creams I could use to help keep to a minimum , and (2) im covered in tattoos , on arms , back , chest , stomach n legs ,.......after weight loss will these all look saggy etc ,..............im obviously more keen to lose the weight , but nice to have an answer for my family n friends , many thanks x

Sorry Paul, but yes the chances are you will have loose skin. The older you are, the less "elastic" the skin and so won't "snap back" too easily, also the longer you've had excess weight (and the more weight it is) then the more stretched the skin will be to start with. I have read of people using creams but I've no idea if any of them are any good.... I shall be interested to hear the answer to that one myself!!!

I'm not sure how true it is, but I think that the quicker you lose weight then the more chance of loose skin? And I read that the first 6 months after op is the time you lose the most weight so "make the most of it" (that's what the article said LOL!!!)
Im hoping that hitting the gym a few times per week will help kerb the skin problem a bit, kind of "tone up" as I go, (especially the first 6 months) - maybe something you might like to look into?

With regards to the tattoos, then logic dictates that some of them will suffer - presumably any that are in particularly "fleshy" areas will suffer more than those on notso fleshy parts! There is also the thought that if you were to have skin removal surgery at a later date then any tattoos caught in the crossfire may have bits missing afterwards. I've just had a new tattoo done a couple of weeks ago and was quite selective about where to have it. Fortunately I'm not bothered about any of my old tattoos!!

May I point out that you'll probably get many more replies to your questions if you put them up in their own threads rather than on this one? Also, it helps others in the future to get answers if they have similar questions. So for example, if you had started a new thread entitled "Loose Skin & Tattoos" in the"General Weight Loss" section, then more people are likely to see it and also anybody else wondering the same thing can follow along or join in the conversation, keeping all relevant information under one topic heading. Furthermore, any future members can easily find the thread and get answers without having to ask the same thing again :)

Thankyou Countrybumkin , thats a great set of answers and advice , im new to all of this and not great on the computer , youv been a great help , and being able to breath n move better is far more important than my tattoos so it wont put me off , will look where to start new threads etc and hopefully il get more input , thanks again

No problem Paul,
To start a new thread, just go to the relevant section and click on "new thread" - just as you did when you posted this thread :) Just shout if you get stuck, we're all here to help each other any way we can :)

I know what you mean about breathing and moving around. I noticed lately that my breathing was becoming quite "chesty", asthmatic-like, which scared me and I feel so clumsy all the while. Its horrible. But hey, we're here, we want to do something about it, we ARE doing something about it, so onwards and upwards eh :)

PS, by the way - I joined my local gym through the doctor. I got a personal fitness instructor who works out a programme that suits what I can/cannot do and weighed me at the start, will weigh me again at 6 weeks then again at the end (12 weeks). I only pay half price to get in any time I want to go. Maybe worth asking your doctor if they have anything to offer to help with exercise?
Failing that, have you checked put your local leisure centre to find out whats on offer? I've heard aqua-aerobics can produce great results and there are all sorts of classes available these days, something might just take your fancy - it helps if you can find something you enjoy. Years ago, I loved line-dancing!!!!! Yep, honest!!!! It was so much fun I barely noticed how energetic it was!!! Shame there's no such thing any more - I'd love to do that again.

I've started swimming, I can't do a lot with my right leg ax in toning up, but I'm hoping it will help with my arms. I wax listening to my new cd on Sunday and I was doing a bit of dancing something I haven't done in years, so that might help with my legs but we will see.
