July 2015 Surgeries

Just had my meeting with the Nutritionist. His guidance is as follows:

PRE-OP

Follow low carb, low fat healthy eating food plan
Limit Fruit to just 2 a day
Dont do foodpacks (lighter life, exante etc), eat proper food

POST-OP

How can I avoid constipation (more fluid, fibre, doctors for tablets if needed)
  • 2 wks, Liquids e.g Skimmed Milk, Thin Soups, Protein Shakes (but not preferred)
  • 3 wks, Puree, 5-6tbps (100g) approx 5-6 times per day
  • 1wk, Mashed, e.g. Cottage Pie, Fish Pie etc… 4-5 times @200g - lots of veg, not just potatoes
For life.... Side plate portion - 3 times per day

Next appointment? Sep 2015

Are you HUNGRY or CRAVING! Drink some water to find out ;)

Hi all

I'm pleased to say I among the Juliers!! Got a phone call yesterday from my Bariatric nurse saying they have a cancellation for the 14th so it's all systems go. I'm a bit worried about the LSD as I will only be doing it for 6 days, they must think that is ok though. See you all on the losers bench.

Hope your doing well

Just a quick update in case anyone suffers the same minor issue, I'm now 11 days post op and all is going fine. 13 pounds lost since op. However yesterday morning one of my dressings started to leak a lot of clear slightly brown liquid. Could see liquid seeping through one of the holes made by the stitches.
Went to doctors who diagnosed a mild infection behind the incision. Prescribed antibiotics 3 times a day. Had to add gauze to dressing but still changed it 4 times yesterday. It now seems to have stopped weeping and the slight swelling seems to have gone down too.
Hopefully all is on the mend and due to have stitches out Thursday

Nick

Thanks for sharing one of mine are a bit weepy so gonna keep a close eye

Just had pre op! All systems go!! Being admitted to a private ward rather than usual surgical ward. Might be in longer as having my hiatus hernia and old gastric band removed which has damaged my stomach then converted to a bypass. 3 in 1.
Roll on Saturday. I'm so ready to go!
Good luck to you all

The antibiotics worked very quickly and after about 36 hours the weeping had stopped, swelling went down and hotness around wound all disappeared. Stitches scheduled to come out tomorrow..

Hi Caroline good luck on your surgery see you on the losers bench

Is anyone else who's on a pre-op diet finding it tough? I'm only on day 3 of 6 and I am really struggling with hunger pangs - 4 slim fast shakes a day really isn't cutting the mustard for me! Oh well will be so worth it I guess.

3 days until my op! Eek!

Any helpful hints or tips of what to take to hospital apart from my pj's, I pad and toiletries???

There is another thread that details all of that, maybe worth lookin at one :)
