My bypass diary - op 23 July 2009 Salford Royal

Hey AJ. Just been catching up on your diary. A stone & a half in two weeks is great. No wonder you feel the way you describe. I'm a mere 3 days post surgery with Mr. Ammori and I feel fine enough to spend loads of time on Mini's. Happy to read that it can only get better. I couldn't make the support group on the 5th but hope to catch up with fellow SRH losers on 09/09.

PS. Well done for getting the job.

Rising sun, take care of yourself, just take it one day at a time, don't try to run before you can walk. I felt exactly the same for the first 3 days post op but then on the Monday I felt even better and that feeling stayed with me each day as it got easier. Once you get your clips out next week you wil feel different again. Just think of the positives. I have had my first day of food today. Ready Brek for breakfast, tuna with a low cal mayonaise pureed and boy did it taste good. I have had a few spoonfuls a couple of times and going to have the last bit with a piece of cauliflower - really pushing the boat out!

Yes CCPM it is a marvelous feeling, I just can't stop smiling like a cheshire cat all of the time and from talking to others this is normal!

Yep the post-op grin, you can spot it! Glad you are feeling so well in yourself and hope you continue to have an easy recovery.

Nic;)

Hey AJ. Yep, it only gets better. I feel so energised already. I've been pottering round the house more than I did pre-op but still making sure I get enough rest. I had key hole surgery with those dissolvable sutures so no clips to take out.

AJ

Hope you dont mind me asking but you mention you had your op during school holidays as with a different surgeon are you NHS or private ? I have an appointment on Thursday with Dr New & Mr Ammouri and am dreading the words later in the year or Nov or Dec !!! I was hoping for Sept or maybe Oct at the latest, do you know what the time scale is from this new One Stop appointment system to surgery ?
Thanks
helen

Message for fatbutnot4eva, I had my one stop on 28 May and had to really push to have my op in the holidays as Mr Ammori was on holiday. I was told when I spoke to his secretary that it was more likely to be Oct/Nov and so I accepted another surgeon and have no regrets. I have a friend who went to one stop appt last week and she was sent straight to pre-op and told next 6 weeks so you just can't tell. Let me know how you go on though and good luck.

A.J great to read your post cant beleive how well every one seems after the major ops its amazing Mia

Just over 3 weeks post op and feeling great. Starting to eat lots of different foods, can cope with fish, cooked meat thinly sliced, tuna, salmon, soft fruit but eggs are a definate no no! I am never sick but I think that is because I am never sick normaly but after eating egg last week, wish I could have been, I felt awful. Went to bed for an hour and felt Ok afterwards. So no eggs for me for a while yet. Trying some special K this morning although I eat it dry as I don't like it when it goes soggy but feeling Ok with it. Have lost a 1lb short of 2 stone too! Went to a 60th party on Saturday night and wore a size 20 per una strappy dress and fellt a milion dollars. Lots of great comments from my friends too. Forgot to take a piccy but will put dress on again and get a piccy to put on site! Feeling on top of the world!

Hi AJ,

I just love reading these 'victory' stories. I think wearing a size 20 and feeling a million dollars is a victory worth celebrating. Can't wait to wear a 20 myself. My little victory was suddenly having an expanded work wordrobe of size 26/28's not worn for a long time.

Hi Rising Sun

Your victory is just as important, I started out at size 26/28 so I know that feeling. Every little bit counts, that's what I say. I am enjoying getting rid of allmy 'big' clothes just asmuch but can't bear to part with a most gorgeous beaded dress I bought myself a couple of Christmas's ago. it is almost full length and quite stunning although it is a size 26/28 so it buries me. I think maybe when i am settled with my weight, I may pay to have it altered although I would possibly get 2 dresses out of it by then. it is such a gorgeous dress though I don't want to part with it and it cost me a lot of money too, but it was a real 'feel good' dress if you know what I mean. I am sure other have the same feelings for some piece of clothing or am I just odd?

That is fantastic hun, way to go! I did feel a bit of attachment to some clothes in the beginning but it has now faded. Nothing looks the same with my 'new' body so things I would have worn are not only huge but all the wrong style now if you see what I mean.

Keep up the fantastic progress.
Nic:)

Well I am now 5 weeks post -op had my appointment with dietician yesterday and he was really pleased with my progress. I have lost 2 stone and I am thrilled. Not lost anything whilst on holiday but I did an awful lot of walking so possbly gained muscle tone which is Ok with me. Feeling really great, had no sickness at all, just a couple of bad moments when eaten something that hasn't agreed with me - giving eggs a really wide birth from now on! Having a lazy weekend before I start my new job on Tuesday.

Glad you are feeling so good, crossing my fingers for you that Tuesday goes really well.

Nic;)

Hi AJ, How are you doing? How was the first day in your new job? I hope you haven't been too tired? Well done for losing so much weight in such a short period of time, you must feel as if you are walking on air and better still, you know you will never put it back on again. Take care. Rebirth

Hiya Rebirth

I feel really good at the moment, had a few problems but nothing too serious. First 2days at work went Ok but better today when the children were back and I got to meet my new pupil. Seems strange to be only working so few hours but better for me healthwise. I was on my knees by 2pm on Tuesday and just wanted to sleep, but better yesterday and today I feel fine. Need some new batteries for my scales so can't weight myself today as I usually would! I know I hsve lost more though, I can tell by my clothes. I took a pair of trousers on holiday but didn't wear them as they felt tight, wore them yesterday and they were baggy! Need to start putting ome on ebay to get rid of them. Hope everything is Ok with you. have you got a date yet?

Finally got a new battery for my scales and whoopeee! I have lost a further 9 pounds! The only problem is that for the past week I have had the most horrible diarrhoea. Everything I have eaten just goes south! It has meant that I am feeling really tired and was so glad to finish work for the week yesterday so I went to bed and slept for 4 hours! Has anyone else had this problem that has lasted over 7 days? I spoke to nurse and she said it can happen and just to carry on esting normal but I have gone off food completely. I would really appreciate and help with this. Got a family wedding tonight which I am looking forward to, just need some get up and go.

Hi I just found your thread. Well done on the new job and on your brilliant weight loss. I can't help with the diarrhoea as not had surgery yet (hope to get funding at appeal). Have a good time at the wedding and hope you feel better soon. Not sure if you are allowed to take Imodium.
