Well done Ian, I am also at L&D and did the 4 week milk diet. The hardest thing I found is going back to eating after the milk. But the milk diet gives a real boost to weight loss. I have my MDT on 7 March when I hope to finally go on the waiting list for surgery. I have been attending Luton since last June, good luck to you
End of the third week of the milk diet. According my scales another 2.5kg has gone. That makes a total so far of 10kg since starting the milk diet.
Roll on next wednesday when I am back at the L&D to see the dietician and my next official weigh in.

Not happy, what is going on at the L&D , had an appointment for MDT at the end of May , but have just had it changed to mid August a whole 12 weeks later.
Am at L&D on Wednesday as end of milk diet so will ask dietician what she knows and recommends.

Woah, Ian that's not acceptable, I was with an NHS MDT Team and one of their main roles was to help you on
all levels to remain focused for the long game. If they do that and you fall by the wayside due to your own failings well sorry but that's the end of your NHS Journey. As you are doing so well, ask all your questions and see if they can at least reduce the 12 weeks difference which is far to long. It's a frustration you don't need right now. Take Care and look after yourself. NigelG
Gosh that's a very long delay. I really hope you can get some clarification and help at your appointment, this sort of thing can feel really devastating
Hi Folks, well a bit happier having seen the dietician today.
Loss from milk diet confirmed at 9.3Kg. So now back on the food diet (1500 Cals).
So discussed the MDT delay and are being moved on to another MDT list ( it appears there are multiple MDT lists) so now awainting a new date. So I now await a new appointment for MDT.
Also discussed what happens if BMI falls below NICE guidelines for surgery and was told it is when you started under the hospital and not the final BMI before surgery. The y would be highly delighted if you where below the 35-40 BMI.
On a sad note my lovely dietician , who has been great, is leaving to work at Greenwich so this was my last meeting with her, she as promised to put on another nice dieticians list, so I will see at my next appointment who I get.

Glad all went well, let's hope you now get a much sooner MDT meeting, I'm interested in the fact that you were told it would be ok if your BMI fell below NICE guidelines because I was given a weight that I must not go below by my very first dietician (I've seen a different one on each visit) she categorically stated that if I went below 87kg. I would not get the surgery , I'm also at L and D so this is something I will being also bringing up when I go on 30th March, obviously this is not because I don't believe you it's because I know how one person can tell you one thing and another person will say something else. Strange also that there is more than one MDT meeting list. Anyway all good for you and well done on the weight loss
Hi Bling,
Thanks for the support. Yes you right we seem to get conflicting messages but worth asking the question. Do you think that as you are nearing your 12 months that they will refer you to MDT at your next appointment, I do hope so.
Now is the difficult time for me, managing real food again but have to be strong and keep up the good work done up till now. So no going back to the bad habits. Food diary in place to start tomorrow after shopping as no food in the place.

Hi Ian what a fantastic weight loss on the milk diet. I was also told it was your weight at the beginning that counted. Hope you get your MDT sooner than August
Well done @Ian2Big on a great loss. I can't imagine trying to get back to managing real food after the LRD without the restriction of WLS to help but you're determined and can absolutely do it. Getting different answers depending on who you ask if always confusing isn't it @Bling Babe I feel quite anxious when it's happened to me too. I need clear guidance and consistency especially when it comes to medical and diet related stuff!

Hi Ian, I'd love to think they would refer me for my MDT but sadly no I don't think there is any chance of that until June, I remember when I first came off the milk diet I was almost afraid to eat anything for fear of undoing all the good, you will be fine hope you enjoyed the shopping it's strange because as much as I battle with myself not to by all the wrong food I also really enjoy making good choices. Good luck Ian

Well done on the fab loss on the milk diet. They varied pathways and the differing convolutions we all make don't make for a smooth journey. I didn't realise there was more than 1 MDT but thank goodness there is as it means you get an earlier appointment.
I start my six week milk diet as a lead into my op date on 25 April so I am going to learn to love and loath the white stuff and stick cubes.
Well it has now been 2 weeks since ending the milk diet and have to admit have not been handling food very well have put on 4kg over the last 2 weeks. Enough is enough and I am back to writing everything down and been more focused on what I am eating. Need to increase my exercise, so are back swimming from tomorrow will have to build up gradually as it is over 4 years since i was last swimming.
Happier Note :
Phone L&D this morning to find out what was happening to my MDT appointment, since it had been 2 weeks and no letter. Have managed to get a new appointment on 17th May with Dr Halsam rather than Dr Rehman. Don't know anything more about it other than the date.
Not getting stressed over that will help too.

Dear Ian
Well done on the refocusing and writing it all down. It is difficult to limit yourself especially after a period of no food. We all wouldn't be doing this is we found limiting our intake easy. Same as exercise. With excess weight comes problems in achieving a good exercise programme and in psychologically getting out to do it. I stopped going swimming in public years ago as I believe everyone is watching me and I feel the displacement of water will be a problem!! That's why when we have our annual holiday we always have a villa with a private pool. Fighting for a sunbed (which will probably collapse under my weight!) around a hotel pool is a nightmare. I did like the gym but due to fused vertebrae a lot of the machines are now a no go for me so I stopped and now would need a tranquiliser to get me to walk in the door.
Glad you rang to prompt them for a date. I am sure there is a written down pathway which you progress through but we all seem to do it a different way. Still as long as we all get there in the end thats what matters. Good luck for the 17th May - is Dr Halsam a surgeon?

Dr Halsam is specialist and part of the Team so don't know what will occur next. I havn't had an annual holiday abroad for a lot of years as hate the discomfort of flighting when this weight. My stepmum will be glad once I have lost the weight as she as not seen me for 6 years as have to fly to visit her. The list of things to do is increaseing with every kilogram I lose.

Yes flying is not the nicest is it. I went on a flight to Mallorca six or so years ago and asked for an extension for the seat belt. As I turned around I heard the steward say to a colleague 'that one needs an elephant belt'. Mortified but also very angry I fumed for the whole flight but didn't say anything as I felt so embarrassed and didn't want to draw any more attention to myself. On another holiday to Croatia we had seats next to the emergency exit both outward bound and homeward. Outward was fine, I had lost some weight and I didn't need an extension. Problem was that I think I may have overdone the food/alcohol on hols so coming back I sat down and couldn't plug my belt in. I asked for an extension and much to my horror was told that I would have to move seat as only 'able bodied' people could sit near the emergency exit as I may block the exit!!! Talk about wanting to crawl away. It was a full flight so they had to ask someone else to change places with me. I fly again (all being well) just over four weeks after surgery to Cyprus so a) fingers crossed I am well enough to travel; b) I can do the damn seat belt up without an extension and without hurting myself; c) I am all healed so I can partake in the villas pool!
Where does your step mum live? Is that one of your goals, to be able to fly out for a reunion? That is a great motivator.
