make the most of it :) will keep fingers crossed!

Hey Susie, hope you are doing okay. Just think, mid January is only 2 weeks away so it is not long at all. Try to relax & enjoy yourself until then.

Best wishes for the New Year, 2009 is all about you baby!!!;););)

Woohoo a new date! Excellent stuff :)

Fill us in on how you're doing, what's been happening?

Hi Susie, how are you doing?? Glad to hear you have lost weight & have got a new date! Such good news!!!

Take good care of yourself & the end of the month will be here in a flash.:D:D:D

have lost 29 pounds since dec 1st. yes now i feel this date is so close irs scarey. my sister is a nurse in the states and thinks i should have the banding verse the bypass as it is safer and i have bad kidneys etc. i thought the banding was high maintenance. do you or dont you have to go periodically to have your pouch filled after the banding??
susie

Hiya. Yes with the band you must have fills to get restriction for it to work. It is different for everyone how many fills it takes to have good restriction, some people only need a couple others have to have 3-4. Over time the restriction can change so you may need more after that to continue to lose weight.

A small point in favor of the bypass is regarding the benefits for diabetics. Many people have complete remission of diabetes after the bypass due to the revision of the intestines. Here is a link to the article:

Type 2 Diabetes: Surprising Cure, Obesity Surgery Can Lead To Weight Loss And Diabetes Reversal - CBS News

You do not see this kind of change with the band, however weight loss in general can help with diabetes.

Just food for thought!

thanks nichole, yes i have diabetes so i think the bypass will help more, although my sister says they are both the same rewards and banding is safer.
susie

Susie I have bad kidneys, and since the bypass I am no longer excreting protein or blood in my urine :D having full function tests this Friday so will see if function has improved too.

that sounds great shel. yes please let me know. i wonder if your kidneys would show the same improvements if you had the banding though?? can you ask your doctor for me please??
thanks susie

I can but won't be seeing him till February. I don't personally think they would have done, because I was skinny when I developed the kidney problems and have lost large amounts of weight before but not seen these improvements. The blood and protein change showed up very quickly, I think it was end of Aug or beginning of Sept when I was at a rheum clinic and they dip tested. I think there is a chance that they could have improved with the band at some point, maybe a year or two down the line when I'd got to where I am now with the bypass, but I'm really not convinced.

Hi Susie,

Got the results today, all of my kidney function tests are normal, first time in about 17 years! I'm gobsmacked, never expected to be completely in normal ranges.
