For those who are not aware I had a sleeve fitted yesterday First of all I think it should be compulsory to have a buddy from here to go with you. MrsG74 and had met on this site a few days ago and realised our surgery was on the same day, same hospital and same surgeon so we had a few personal messages and exchanged numbers . We then met whilst waiting to be checked into the hospital at 10.00am and had rooms next to each other. It was brilliant as we both had family members with us but I really cannot say how privileged it felt to have someone who totally understood where I was coming from - and going to. I really feel like I have made a friend for life. So now to the surgery...I didn't go down till 5.00pm (Mrsg74 went after me) ..........by the time I went down I felt like I had experienced an emotional roller coaster....I was getting prepped/knocked out for about 15 mins and I was last aware of the time at 5.15. I returned to my room at 7.45. The surgery had lasted less than hour but my recovery was slow. So now it's the following day , less than 24 hours later and I'm home ! My stomach feels like someone has bashed me, I'm feel exhausted and am having difficulty stringing sentences but I feel ok. I've had at least 3 cups of very weak tea and one of soup plus lots of water. I got out of bed about 30mins after returning to the ward as I was desperate for a wee and got out of bed this morning around 8,30am this morning and have pottered around ever since Problems for me DO NOT GULP DRINKS - I forgot when they gave me cup of tea and I thought I was about to die, the pain was excruciating- I will not do it again putting a hot water bottle/hot pad on the wound helps me loads I took a mouth spray into hospital , advised from this site and it was really useful I can't bend - and I hadn't realised how many things I drop...so I am learning toe football - "the get underneath and push up" (I hadn't realised my door was open as I was practicing this method for my hair slide!!) and the Toe grab method - manipulate the object between toes and lift ! I'd been told about the excess wind and I expected burps and farts (sorry to be crude) I hadn't expected this coughing up phlegm and constant need to clear my throat - which puts pressure on the wound and so hurts ! So there we are, my experience. Very different to what I expected but all in all I've had major surgery and I'm home and feeling human. When I left MRSG84 was feeling nauseous but has been out of bed. I hope she doesn't mind my sharing that.
