November 2016 Surgeries

Hi everyone. Well, where to start?? Not good news. I underwent surgery yesterday but my surgeon advised me shortly after recovery that he had been unable to carry out the procedure as I had a very large hiatus hernia and my stomach was very high up within the thorax area. This rules out any WLS including band and balloon. So, this is where the journey ends for me. I wish you all success with your surgeries and on-going weight losses. This is a great site and your support and advise has been fantastic. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Oh @Iwannabeslimagain I am so so sorry to hear this news! I am shocked. You must be in a terrible state. Can they now refer you to NHS to get the hernia sorted? In hindsight thankfully you never had a balloon as you and them may not have known and it would have caused major problems. Do you get your money back or reschedule for when you have hernia fixed? Sorry don't know much about hernias and there treatment. Again I am so sorry sweet but good they used their medical expertise to know that this surgery was then impossible with your unknown physical condition. Lots of xx hugs at this time.

Oh no I'm gutted for you.
Hope you can get that hernia sorted - I'm sure someone else on this board had a similar issue I've read about.

Really sorry to hear this, you must feel devastated, I know I would after all that preparation both mental and physical. Was your surgery in the UK? Have you been told if they would be able to do a repair at all, or is that not possible? I don't know enough about it I am afraid.

All I can do is offer you hugs and support on here if you want it, please stay positive and look at what might be able to be done in the future. This might be a blip in your WLS journey, not the end of it. I know if it was me I would struggle not to go on a downward spiral of comfort eating which would be counterproductive.

I hope that you feel able to continue to post and accept support - after all you have had surgery, and you are on a weight loss journey, it is just unfortunate that the WLS surgery Could not be completed at this time.

Take care and take time to recover, you still need to heal.

@Iwannabeslimagain i am so so sorry, makes me feel guilty now saying im home :( take care xx
Hi JakkiD, dont feel guilty. I am pleased for you that everything went to plan and you sound to be doing well. I am very disappointed obviously, but I am also grateful that I had a surgeon with sufficient expertise to abandon the procedure. He showed me photographs on his fone but I was too groggy to see them properly. He will email them so I can take them to my GP. Even if I have the repair I dont think WLS surgery is an option in the future. Its extremely rare so anyone reading this should not be concerned it could happen to them. Anyway, they say everything happens for a reason.....

That's a shame he wasn't able to repair it. Fingers crossed the NHS sorts it out for you.

Hello Novemeber Sleevers

I am now home and sleeved! Got home yesterday evening. The operation was fast just under an hour but took 2 hours in recovery due to not coming round. Had low oxygen levels for 24hrs and needed oxygen. Was up and could walk with help second day and walk small steps from yesterday and today. Yes there is pain but yes well worth it. I am glad I just woke up! Will catch up again later but wanted to touch base and thank you all for your well wishes xx
Glad to here all went well. Good luck over the next few days getting back to normal.

Good luck Jeff the other poster stated how good your surgeon is and that to me would be so reassuring. You will be on that bench too for the future and living a healthier life.

@MrsN your the 11th time is flying now but I guess it doesn't seem as fast on your side but once sleeved you will be so busy sip sip sip and just plodding around. I am starting to enjoy day time tv with being at home and Xmas films are on!

I am really trying to get my head around Xmas as it was all about food food food! Now I won't be doing that and wonder how I will cope? I may be starting solid food around then too so scary! That should be a separate thread lol!

Good luck Jeff, the lady in the next bed to me had a bypass yesterday and went home today when I did, so fingers crossed for a smooth ride x
OMG your home already! Yu are doing amazingly! No way I would have been able to go home next day, could have stayed another 2 if allowed lol! how is it all going? The standing, drinking and clear liquids? How are your kids with it all? Do you have daily injections to do? Great news,
