November 2016 Surgeries

I had to go in for 7am and they didn't come for me until 3.30pm - I got quite bored in the end but at least it was better than being totally scared. Are you in your sexy hospital gown and stockings yet @MrsN ? I felt like a model strutting down to theatre in that get up! (I might be being slightly sarcastic :D)

Yeah I'm gown and stocking but not put those sexy paper knickers on yet. The least time in those the better!!! Yuk!
Keep thinking someone one the ward has been down and had it done already. There are 4 of us this afternoon.

@JakkiD how are you doing anyway?

Ah paper pants, it's non stop glamour! I struggled to settle to any one thing while I waited too so I think I just talked my best friends ear off about every random thought I had. That's nothing new though to be fair. She's a very patient woman ;)

@jeff20stone hope you are now on losers bench and recovering well...let us know when you can

@Heidi C hello and welcome...good luck for next week.

@Chill Welcome to and you may be closing the November Newbies...I opened it on 2nd when sleeved.

@MrsN not too long now Hun hold in their and think of January sales :)

Still in my room. Bored.

I really hope you're getting sorted right now x

@Chill I am home a week today from my sleeve? I have had a bit of pain but GP now prescribing stuff for stomach cramps. I do get the oh when will I be thin (no patience and will take a good year) but what I plan to do is stay around here for support and support others as nowhere else like here and as on my own not told a soul in RL except my mum I am grateful of the support of the lovely losers who understand and been their. How is your pre op diet going? It's most important to stick too it as the goal is the operation being able to be done which will result in being a great loser;)

What is mad is I just had a bowl of clear soup with marvel 125mls and I am stuffed:) my diet before was +++++

@JakkiD how you doing? Don't worry just sip as much as you can. I am lucky and drink 3/4 mug of tea;) so have 2/3 of them a day. With all fluids I am clearing the litre I have so far today and I will have another cuppa later so 1300mls max.

Im just stiff and achey today but not in too much pain thankfully, i managed about 800mls yesterday, probably similar today, I dont want to push it but also dont want to end up dehydrated, thanks for the advice :D

@Want2b3 pre op diet so far is going ok, am feeling hungry as normally would have a hell of a lot more than just 1 weetabix for breakfast and 2 crisbreads with 2 boiled eggs and some cherry tomatoes! I plan to have a small portion of chicken with some broccoli and cauliflower for dinner.

Not looking forward to the pain after but hoping it won't be for long!

I've started trying to visualise myself slim, I just can't work out what I'll look like as I've never been smaller than a size 14/16. My colleague is convinced I'll be a size 12 (I'm currently a 22) by the time I go to Tobago in February and I've told her that the won't happen! 3even if it would be nice!

Listen to your body...and your not in pain great:) I am struggling to find the route to mine which is now stomach cramps but don't know if it is milk or to much fluid:confused:
When you have soup how much do you have or when you have tea or coffee etc? I don't know if I am drinking to much soup about 120mls in one sitting or is it milk effecting me causing pain after meals (liquids)? Remember your not moving like normal so less liquids ok. I won't recommend as other fab person here starryeyed had ice cubes Etc and stomach was bad that required hospital so I think warmer drinks are better? Try peppermint tea I have options choc with milk and marvel which is delicious x

@ Chill it is hard the pre op but surgeon told me I did all the hard work to make my liver smaller and op took less than an hour :) it is so important as it could result in op being cancelled.. another poster explained it really well the other day that liver is in the way of the stomach. I am very embarrassed but surgeon said my stomach was huge  but not surprised :D but my liver was small and I have had a fatty liver over 10 years so was chuffed not only did it shrink enough but it was small:cool:

I keep looking at slim people on tv thinking oh it would be lovely to be that slim but tbh I was about 7 when I was last thin so can't remember. A size 14 is my ideal size! It means I can go to every shop. But I have a lot more sizes to drop to reach that. You have 5 dress sizes as a goal...what I see hear everyone loses fast at first My issue is keeping it off.

Hi all.
Quick post to say I'm ok just shatteered and dozing quite a bit. OX

@MrsN glad you're ok I look forward to joining you and the others on the losers bench next week.

@Want2b3 the pre op diet I've been given seems a toned down version of slimming world! (That's how my friend who is a slimming world consultant saw it) so other than feeling a bit hungry, I'm ok with it and just drank when I felt hungry. I could sit and snack on salad veg but I'm also trying to get in the routine of smaller portions. I should have been on the lrd for 2 weeks but only had a call on Wednesday offering me the op for the 17th.

Keeping it off has also been an issue for me too which why I've opted for surgery. My son will need another kidney transplant sometime in the future and I want to be in a position then to be able to give one to him and not be as I was the first time thinking oh sh!t how do I lose 9 stone very quickly! Luckily my brother offered but I want to be ready. Rather than losing it via another way and it then creeping back on.

@MrsN so glad to hear you are ok! Yes the drugs the bloating from the gas and the battering your body takes needs time so rest and just sip water and listen to your body. welcome to the losers bench Mrs N x

@Chill yes like me and a few mums here we need to be around for our babies, my son has autism and I need to be around for as many years into his adulthood as he is very emotionally and functioning delayed. I was on boarder of many Cronic conditions and have liver disease (NonA) sleep apnoea on top of asthma not a great combo and felt it after op as was on oxygen and had asthma attack few days ago as breathing very shallow after op. As the weight is dropping off my neck and upper back I can feel a little difference already although breathing still shallow on times but taking my 2 inhalers regularly last few days.

Losing it is easy it is keeping it off you, I and most others have the difficulty with. Taking away the hunger hormone which this op does as in bottom of the stomach gives us a fresh new start and We do have to keep to the rules to ensure it does not return so not an easy way out at all but a chance again to do it right.

Your end goal is crucial and I do not blame you one little bit to do this as you are then giving your little boy the best chance ever. You should be very very proud of yourself :hugs:

Hi everyone.

So as far as I know my op went as planned - from what I can remember I haven't been told otherwise. I didn't get into theatre til 5 and was distressed in recovery because I felt so sick so had loads of anti sickness drugs. Was back in my room about 8.30pm and hubby arrived about 8.45pm and just sat watching me sleep for a few hours.
Pain wise - doing ok. More uncomfortable now with the odd niggle. Does pull when standing though - I'm guessing that's normal?
Trying to get the fluids in but I'm exhausted and just want to sleep! Is that a problem at this stage?
Sites - I've 4 smaller insertions and one larger one maybe 2.5-3cm where they removed stomach.
Think I'll be going home later on.

I think wanting to sleep is perfectly normal. I was still on drips the day after for quite a while so wasn't worried about getting fluid in (and couldn't anyway) but I'm guessing you're drip free? I'd just keep trying to sip water when you're able to and unless the medical people are worried I think you're probably doing just fine :)
