Hi I'm 3 weeks post op and have read in time as a snack I will be able to eat nuts, but what nuts will I be allowed, was hoping pistachios as I really don't like almonds?

Shame you dont like almonds, although you might soon! They are the best form of protien with brazils coming second.Any nuts are good for you as long as they are not salted.

How many almonds do you think is a good portion BB? I daren't but anymore Whole Earth peanut butter as it's too tempting and goes down too easy. Would whole nuts fill me up quicker ? I know you're a great nut lover-in a good way lol !

I'm still pre-op, but my dietician at Derby has said that peanut butter is allowed on the post op diet. But I like all nuts anyway. One thing I was wondering about is chestnuts as I believe they're supposed to be very low in fat.

I liked eating dry roasted as they are a fair source of protein and lower in fat than peanuts that are fried. Almonds are good and Harvey Nichols due a fantastic Almond paste that is so yummy but not as bad for you as peanut butter. Now remember I was at goal and trying to hold my weight from dropping before I started with these things. There are better sources of protein snacks available while you're in the honeymoon stage x

Chestnuts are fine but not as nutricious, dont worry about pnb if you only have it a few times a week on crackers thats ok.I get small bags of almonds from Home and Bargain for 39p and have them in my bag for when im out shopping, they dont always have them so get big bags from Peter Greaves and split them.

Yeah, but remember it was a handful each day, and I'd reached goal before I ever considered putting them in my mouth. They are better for you than crisps and the other snack food crap we eat/ate, but they do contain fat and should be eaten with care. If you have to have a savoury they are OK......just LOL

I nibble on almonds, brazils, dry roasted peanuts or the odd salted peanuts. A small amount of the dry roasted or salted peanuts or about 6 - 8 of the almonds or brazils. As with everything post-op if eaten in moderation they are good for use due to the high protein levels but the fats are high. A sheet from my dietitian recommends several types of nuts as good protein sources with a guide on a sensible amount e.g. 6 almonds approx 13g have 2.7g protein & 79.6 kcals. 3 Brazil's approx 10g have 1.4g protein & 68.2kcals. Cashews 10 (10g) 1.8g of protein 55.3kcals. Peanuts 10 (10g) 3.3g protein 73.3kcals. Pinenuts 10g 1.4g protein 68.8kcals. Pistachios 10 (10g) 1.0 protein 33.1kcals. Sesame seeds 1Tbsp (12g) 2.2g protein 71.8kcals. Sunflower seeds 1Tbsp (16g) 3.2g protein 93.0 kcals. Walnuts 6 halves (20g) 2.9g protein 137.6kcals.
