Blooming boilers stopped working now so not only do we not have any heating now which we've been really frugal with and only had on in the evening very low once we're all in, but now we have no hot water so no shower which works off the boiler or bath. I will be putting the kids in the dish washer tomorrow. Just what we don't need this time of year especially with me being off for 3 weeks unpaid. Bet it will cost £100 just for a bloke to come out and knock on the door.

Kate this sounds funny but who do u bank with - u don't have to tell me all in thinking is with lloyds top acc u get home care. So when ur boiler breaks they come out free off charge.

Check if ur bank do this if they do upgrade over the phone then two days later use the home emergency service then just cancel will cost u a couple of quid lol.

Hope that makes sense x

hi kate i know what amy is on about
most of the banks offer home content insurance
and you can up grade your acccount to get this and it includes other items you want to cover like mobile phone.
i think its about 5pounds a month. xx

Sorry to hear this Kate, but I did do a big chuckle at the idea of you spinning your kids in the dishwasher !!!!

We're with Barclays and we have the whatever it is that gives you free RAC cover. Will go and have a look and see if it covers boilers etc. Thanks.

Just looked, it's the Additions thing we have but although it extends the warranty of household appliances our boiler is about 8 years old so is out of even that. Oh well. We have a man coming round later this afternoon to look at it.

Put the heating on and wash the dishes by hand!Isnt it cheaper to use hot water from the boiler than using a dishwasher!Make the kids do it!lolMaz x

The boilers not working lol.

Working it out, I only run the dish washer once a day, sometimes once every two days and it works out cheaper, doing it on the economy programme than heating the water to do all the seperate wash ups during that time. Can't stand it hanging around either.

Sort of good news though. We've had a chap and his son round having already talked Tim through a few checks he could make over the phone and it turned out to be the circuit board. This costs £170 for a new one but having discovered that Tim is an electrician and does a lot of electronics work too (he built his own amplifier for his electric guitar etc.) the chap told him that he used to be an electrician before becoming a plumber and that he could probably mend the board for a couple of quid himself. He's mended them in the past himself. Well Tim can do that no problem and even has the little bit it needs in his workshop a diaode thing or something, and they cost about 10p each. He's down there soldering it now. If he manages to fix it, we wont have to buy a new one, and it takes about 20 seconds to replace it back in the boiler.

Tim asked him how much we owed him for his visit and the chap said is £20 ok. Crikey, what a lovely bloke. We'd been to the building society and taken out £400 thinking it might be as much as that. We've written his number on the inside of the door of the boiler for future use.

There are still some lovely workmen out there.

x
glad yours is all sorted :)

Great news I cant stand being cold and the weather is taking a real turn for the worse today!

Just goes to show that there are some decent people out there.:)

We ahd to replace the pump on our boiler last week, the dishwasher has packed in and the washing machine was replaced only last month. I'm dreading what might go next:cry:

I do need to sort the dishwasher out though, they are more economical with water than doing by hand..

Tim couldn't fix it, but he has found a reconditioned one on line for £55 so has ordered one. I've lit the fire in the living room so it is toasty in there. We will just have to visit the in-laws for showers till it comes in a few days. At least we wont have to pay to have it fitted which is a bonus.

Kate.

That was a great price! Well done :)

Aw that's great , a lovely chap who has Xmas spirit & a clever Tim , perfect xx

Oh for goodness sake. The new circuit board came today and Tim fitted it in the boiler and it did exactly the same again. He phoned the man who came yesterday to let him know and he just wasn't interested. Something fishy there, you think someone is lovely and honest then you find out that they weren't as fab as you thought don't you. Unfortunately the part Tim brought for £50 odd pounds is non returnable even if it's been mis diagnosed so we can't get our money back for it. What a bloody waste of time and money. Still no heating or hot water and we have another chap coming out tomorrow at 11.30. When I told him the last bloke had said it was the circuit board he chuckled and said, no it wouldn't be that. Ugggghhhhhh really not what we need this close to Christmas and me off work for 3 weeks unpaid.
