Operation Dates!

Hi first post so here goes, Im having a bypass on the 1st of april at the thornbury at sheffield. Im 6 days into the milk and yoghurt diet and have lost 12 pounds but boy do i find it hard.

Glad i found this site, reading the posts from the people who have gone through it have alleviated a lot of mine and my wifes fears so thanks.

John.

Hi John

welcome to the forum :) Mine is on the 5th April at Walsall. Im also on the milk diet at the moment its my 6th Day tomorrow. I do find it hard too.
I have found that when im hungry, I will have a hot drink of milk or an oxo cube. I find that this helps a little. I seem to be ok in the mornings its in the afternoon and after tea time that I struggle.:(

On Tuesday night hubby was cooking his tea and I went and had a nice relaxing bath, this helped a lot to be honest. I must admit it is getting a little easier the further I go on.

Good luck with your op :) keep in touch

HI Jayne(snowangel)

It's 4 pints of semi skimmed milk, 2 salty drinks, 1 sachet sugarfree jelly and im allowed 3 pieces of gum a day. Been for pre op assessment this afternoon, actually 6lbs down from start of pre op diet.. im not hungry at all but i guess because i don't have to cook for anyone else it makes the hunger pangs better. xxx

Yes, that does make a difference. My family are trying not to eat around me and sometimes I seem to be able to cope and other days I find it a lot more difficult :( I just keep thinking that Ive only got another 8 days to go and then I get my op. It must be great having jelly too! Im just missing eating and chewing at the moment!! xxx

Snow angel, thanks for the welcome.

I am finding the diet easier but from about 3pm until i have my evening "meal" i could literally chew off my arm. Only four more days to go :)

Hi John
yes, thats the time that I suffer too. I can cope in the mornings but after dinner and tea time is definately the worst for me too!:(

What I do to help is when I feel like that I have a mug of bovril or some hot milk, that makes me feel like I have had something to eat! I know its only all in my head but it does work for me.

Ive got another week on the milk diet before my surgery so I hope its not going to get worse!!

Keep up the great work, its worth it in the end...........:)

Snow angel, I find if i have an oxo then a yoghurt it kinda feels like an evening meal and im ok after that. It has got slightly easier as the days have gone by but i seem to spend all of my idle thoughts fantasising about food. Apparently cos i diabetic im being admitted to the thornbury the night before my op(why?) so i really only have till tuseday to rough it out then the ball really starts to roll....

Hi John

they normally get you in the day before your operation to make sure your starved and also do any late tests like bloods etc they may need to do. It also ensures that you have got a bed!

Im going in at 7 am next Sunday and having my operation on the day as Mr Khan is on annual leave next week when my operation was origonaly booked to go in on the 1st op on the 2nd but he's going to do the weekend operations so that's why mine is different :)

I am really struggling today :( I am starting to feel weak and shaky..........and Im really wanting to go into the kitchen and munch the fridge but Ive gone 1 week so its not worth it.
I too have an oxo and a yoghurt when im hungry, most of the time it eases it but at the moment, im sipping 1pt of hot milk and eating a yoghurt to see if that will help!

:sigh:

Hi Snow angel.

Im at the end of my 8th day and Ive lost 16 pounds so far and have been getting weak and shaky spells from around the 3rd day as well as annoying headaches, I find the hunger more of a mental rather than a physical thing now. Out of all the pre op diets the milk/yoghurt one seems the harshest :(

Hi John, im on day 7, milk diet just milk no yogurts!! not fair i like muller light yogurts lol.., 1 salty drink, 1 sachet of sugar free jelly. your headaches could possibly be you need to drink some more water (dehydration), your weaknes and dizzy spells sound like low blood sugar try and take a glass of milk or one of your yogurts when you feel like that. hope that helps. xx

Hi Tubbyspud,

Wow, i thought i was hard done by, no yoghurts? you would think there would be some kind of standard diet rather than so many variations! Only 2 more days to go for us though :)
