POSE Surgery

Hello all,

I'm thinking of doing the "Primary Obesity Surgery Endoscopic" aka POSE. Has anyone had this done, it's new in the UK but about 4 years old in the US.

Completely incision-less and done through the mouth. Anchors are placed inside the stomach to make it smaller. Completely reversible, safer that other surgeries.

Thoughts please.

When I was looking at it, I seem to recall it is suitable for specific bmi's only between 30 and 40, and it has to be self-funded. I am nhs, so I stopped looking when I realised that. It sounds great though, if you meet the criteria.

Hello all,

I have today been given a date for the pose sugary and will have to go under using anaesthetic. I will have to stay overnight, can anyone tell me if I will be fit to drive the next day?

When I was looking into it, I never saw driving mentioned, just that you could return to work within a few days. It's probably best to give a quick call to one of your team to find out for sure.

Not sure re op but after a general anaesthetic the general rule for thumb is no driving for at least 24 hours. If you are thinking of driving yourself home check that hospital will discharge you without escort.

Not sure about the procedure I know my surgeon does it in Leeds though.

As to driving probably not so soon after surgery - I was told when I could do an emergency stop safely - BUT it is dependent on your insurance company.

And I've had other procedures under GA in the past and wasn't allowed home alone

Having it done beginning of Feb, it will cost me £7000. Other surgeries are asking for £8000.

I have my first appointment next Friday and if all goes well will try to get booked in asap, although I understand they are only operating once this month and once in March, which unluckily falls 2 days before I compete at Crufts!! I'll let you know how I get on.

Nice to find someone on the same path. It'll be good to compare notes.

Good luck with your op. Check with your team about the driving. Just ring the secretary and they shoulc be able to help. I have heard of one person having a similar op. It was the rose they had and they had had a bypass before this. They healed quick but that is all I remember.
