Procedure for Sunderland

Nah, as I have mentioned previously, I phoned the hospital last week and was told that they had no clinics at present but I should hear something in the next week or two!!!! Still waiting, bit disappointed as I had heard that they had expanded the department, but I am not seeing the benefit at the moment. As for the diet I am still less than I started with at the group session as to how much, don't know, the longer the break is inbetween appointments the harder it is to stick to the diet! I had my eyes done and I am now waiting for the all clear so I can go in the pool and start the old aqua fit and get some fat moving.

Hello everyone - and welcome to Michael, another addition to our cluster !!
Hope you are all well.
How's everyone doing with the dreaded weight loss ?
I'm back in the right frame of mind now - feeling a bit more positive and just had my second salad of the day !
(btw - it was a stone i have to lose before Oct)
Janet - sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch - let us know if a motivational get together would help (i know i'm always in need of one !!)

I am up for another meet (although I can't make 11th July, Disney Princesses are going to be at Dalton Park and have promised
Granddaughter that I will take her) Glad to hear you are back at the harness plodding away at the diet, as I said earlier, it is becoming harder and harder to stay motivated the longer the time between appointments. Do you reckon it is a test?

hi thanks everyone for your messages. i was feeling abit nervous about going but at least i know abit more now and know what to expect. i dont know what type of surgery yet. i would have to listen to the pros and cons first but at the minute i would prefer to have a band. how long is it normally between group sessions and how many do you have? no one has explained anything to me so its all new. thanks alot

hi michael, it looks like me and sarah will be at the meeting on wednesday but will confirm this tomorrow. there is only one group session, then you will be sent an appointment through the post for a further consultation.
im a bander by the way.

liz x

pm me if ya on msn, be happy to add ya x

lol lesley - if it is a test i'm failing miserably !
Frustratingly i know i could lose a stone if i put my mind to it but its keeping it off for the long gaps between appointments that the worst bit. Everyone keeps saying that it shouldn't be too difficult but if it was that easy i wouldn't need a flipping bypass !!

Michael - i had my group appointment in Jan and my follow up in May. In May they set me my weight loss target and i have an appointment to go back in October. I am under the impression that if i have met my target that in Oct they will then put me on the waiting list for the op (which i was led to believe would be about 4 - 6 months later) However they keep mentioning that they are increasing their team capacity in order to bring these times down a bit, so it could improve soon.

Lesley, you started me thinking when you mentioned Dalton Park - what would that be like as a possible future meeting venue ? (purely thinking selfishly as its a bit nearer for me !!)
Would people be able to make it to there - i wasn't sure if everyone drives ?

storza we will be at the meeting tomorrow just to confirm x

Hi, i have just been reading through all the posts in this thread, and feel a more at ease already, but i was wondering if anyone could give me some more help.

I have just received an appointment for a group meeting at Sunderland Hospital for the 29th of July, and from reading what has gone on in the past i feel fairly at ease with the process. I am however a little worried about being accepted for the procedure.

When i visited my GP to ask to be considered for surgery i had a BMI of just over 40, since then i have continued trying to lose weight, and due to having targets (i.e being best man at a wedding / holiday to slim down for) i have been able to lose around a stone which has brought my BMI down to 39. I have seen that the requirements are that you must have a BMI of 40+. Do you know if this will disqualify me from the surgery?

I have lost weight quickly and put it back on quickly in the past, and would not like to think that losing weight now, would hinder my long term wishes of losing a lot of weight. Any help would be really appreciated.

hello i dont think it will matter as when you were reffered your bmi was 40+ all it proves is your commited to loosing weight and to the surgery please dont worry about it good luck x x x sarah

hi mac, i agree with sarah it shouldnt go against you but make sure you tell them what your bmi was on referal as they will take a new bmi at the group meeting x

29th july will be my 35th birthday if im not going out on the lash i shall see you there x

Hi everyone old and new to this post. I would love to have a motivational meet up soon. I am not having a good time at the minute, my step daughter went back to live with her mother as I could not stand the lying and stealing any more. My beloved baby Nero (DOG) was put to sleep on 26 June and I miss him sooo much. I am also under the care of a rheumatologist as I have been having mega problems with joints and have to go and have immunology testing and x-rays. A review at My GP on Friday and my latest bloods are all off. Low white count, low HB low serum calcium low ionising calcium and low Vit D so I am worried as I dont know what is happening and scared it may prevent surgery for weight loss. Sorry to rant on I just feel very low at present.
