Hiya
Hope you enjoyed your coffee yesterday. I wish I could have been there as seem to have so many questions for you all!

Lesley, I am so pleased you have your date. Good luck with everything.

I am still waiting for appointment, any idea how long I am likely to wait? I just want to get the ball rolling!

I am not really sure which option to go for at the moment, do they go through all the options with you and you decide or do they advise which one is best?

It is quite daunting but have tried so many other things I just feel this is the only way forward.

I would really appreciate any advice you can give. Thank you so much.

Hi Jo
They will give you more info at the group meeting and send you home with some literature to read. (they even showed a video of a bypass procedure at my meeting, gross but interesting !!)
I had done a fair bit of research before i even asked my GP to refer me so i had pretty much made up my mind what i wanted beforehand anyway.
Despite all the professional info i've read the best knowledge has come from talking to Liz and Sarah and listening to their experiences (as one has had a bypass and the other a band) It has given me an insight into the reality of the "afterwards" of the different surgeries and confirmed to me that i have made the right choice. I was also prepared to be influenced by the surgeons advice, but mine agreed with me anyway.
Hopefully we will get the chance to meet up again in August and you can chat to them before you have your first appointment.
(appointment time wise - i was referred end Nov 08 and had my group meeting end Jan 09)

hi girls im gutted i wasn`t quite up to the metrocentre today but def b there next time xxh

hi heather will be great to meet you next time xxxx

Jayne
Thank you so much for your reply, I am looking forward to meeting you all so that like you say I can hear other's experiences. Hopefully will see you in August. Do you have a date yet for your op?

It was great to meet up with everyone yesterday and have a catch up. Good luck with your appointments Sarah and Liz and thank for the great information you give to all.
Jo where abouts in county Durham are you? I live in Bowburn.

Janet
I live in Peterlee so not far from you. What stage of this process are you at?

Liz/Sarah, hopefully I will get to meet you in August as I would love to hear your stories.

lol hi lesley nothing has been arranged yet x

I really thought I was going mad, I double checked when the first group session was going to be, nope as discussed when I am going to be in Scotland, hopefully enjoying lots of malt whiskey! Jayne must have put the wrong month.

ha ha lol at Lesley. You will have a fab time in Scotland.
Jo I had a group session on 10 June and now I am waiting for my first appointment with the specialist.

Well, whenever you next get the chance to arrange a meet up I will hopefully get to meet you all!

Fingers crossed you will get your appointment soon Janet, I was thinking of ringing Docs tomorrow to see that she definitely sent referral as will be 3 weeks tomorrow and I haven't heard anything, what do you think?

Cheers

Hi Jo
TBH I dont know how long it took from referral to group session meeting as I asked to be referred in January this year then GP did loads of bloods etc and had group meeting on 10th June, not sure when he did actually refer me.
Give Mr Small's secretary a ring and ask how long it is likely to be.
Good luck x

gawd, i go away for a few days, unaware of the confusion i've caused - Lesley, i think you have already had quite enough whiskey !!
What i meant was that it would be good if we could get together again sometime in August, ahead of the formal meeting at the hospital in September.
Any excuse for me to travel up to the Metrocentre for the ritual trip to Evans, only for me to moan about the elasticated dropped waist bands they keep putting on their tops and the very idea of moi in wet look skin tight leggings !

If anyone fancies a get together in mid/end August let it be known - i can't do the bank holiday weekend but am okay on the other Saturdays

Liz, how did it go at the hospital.
Sorry if you have posted this info elsewhere on the forum but i've been at Blackpool all week with my neice and nephews and am so exhausted i can't be a**ed to trawl through the posts ! :4635:
But you know how nosey i am and i really want to know how you got on.

Hi all, hope everyone is ok, been a bit quiet on here recently!

I am very frustrated - I have just phoned Mr Small's secretary as was referred by my GP a month ago and have heard nothing. Was told quite abruptly that "patients are currently waiting about four months for first appointment and then about five months after that".

HUMPH!!!!!

Jo x:mad:

hi jo thats right 4 month approx to the 1st appointment which will be the patient group meeting then another 4-5 months after that to see the surgreon alone. it takes so long because the demand for wls in our area is very high xxxx

Hi
Thanks Liz and Sarah for your responses, I feel calmer now. I didn't realise the initial wait would be so long, but like you say the result will hopefully be worth it. And at least I have this site and support from you! Thanks.
