Rake Lane/North Tyneside Update

Can I ask what the procedure is with waiting times at rake lane please?
My doc referred me to SRH but I'm slap bang between both and if rake lanes times are better I'm going to ask for a referral there instead as everyone seems to keep getting the goal posts move at SRH.
I'm only at very start of process so I doubt changing hospitals is going to have too damaging an effect

Hi minxtress we have all waited under a year from seminar to op me being the longest at 11 months and wencho the shortest at 7 months so they have good waiting times compared to most. Have you done weight management yet ? X

No what is weight management? Ive not heard of that so maybe they don't do that at Sunderland?

It's where you have to go in a group and get weighed every week for around 12 weeks and do some exercise. I think it's a requirement for Sunderland too as it's tier 3 and surgery is tier 4. You could ask to be referred at doctors rather than waiting for which ever hospital you choose to say you need it. Maybe someone form Sunderland could see if they had to do it as rakelane it's a must. But it doesn't put your time later, as can do it after seminar or before.

So from seminar to surgery is approx 11 month at most and I could do weight management in between that time not in addition? If that's the case in going back to doctors to be referred to take lane instead a Sunderland times seem to be getting longer and longer and peoples appointments are bein moved by six months in some cases

I think that it's a problem with Sunderland that they keep putting back appointments also their phycologyst is quite harsh as some people have to have a ballon fitted before bypass on their say so. It's just over rake lanes waiting time without the cancellations but most people have at least 1 cancellation with Sunderland. x

Hello Suzie! good luck with your operation honey!
SOO nervous for seminar! Still having issues with some family members not being to happy, but spoke to my big boss today and im allowed 2 weeks floating annual leave for when I get my op date so i dont have to be off sick, and she is then returning me to work on light duties after so atleast I dont have to worry about that

I got refered then 2 weeks later got my seminar date, and ive got my 1st seminar on the 5th, so ive only weighed about 6-8 weeks for my 1st appt! (im at rake lane)

I've got seminar on 11th at Sunderland so will probably have to have two if I change to rake lane but hey ho il survive lol

One thing...... At rake lane are the guideline the same a SRH as I'm just over 40 BMI ad would hate to change to rake lane only to find I dont fit their criteria an have to start from scratch at Sunderland again!

Rake Lane follow NICE guidelines, and recommend bariatric surgery as 2nd line option with bmi's between 40/50 and ive already tried orilistat (twice and ended up in hosp!!) plus conventional diets so I qualified
Minxtress just looking at your journey - very similar to mine! Let me know how your seminar goes? Mines this week, so nervous but im sure ill be ok! oddly enough my dr nearly recommended me to SRH but wanted me this side of the water because of my other medical teams who are looking after me, and we got advised NTGH was quicker aswell!

gud luck soooooooozie lol......i thort id b awake alnyt this tym last week but think it was the best kip ad had in weeks haha.....they had never met any1 as excited 4 surgery b4 as i was.....mandy in theatre cudnt belive it haha.....some lovely nurses aswel...grace is 1 of them she is lovely , you will b well lookd after......hopefully ul get out thurs same as a did .
not sure how ud change hosps if u already have a seminar booked but def worth askin as rake lane seems by far the shortest journey tht ive seen and theres alot of dif hosps on here! good luck hope u get it changed....any Q's feel free 2 ask n we wil try owa best 2 answer lol xxx

im feeling fantastic! was only on pain relief for the 1st 2days....day of op and day after!
1st few days home i didnt eat or drink much but now im upping both as the days go by so now im doing that the weight will start shifting...only lost 2lb so far but aslong as its in the right direction i dont care haha....i was advised 2 try and drink tasty things 2 get my fluids up such as ribena and frijj!! both go dwn excellent. not been sick once yet which is always a bonus but always the risk of it lol...trial and error 4 each individual i guess xxx

Thanks I'm so sorry to hear about your family they will come round or will just have to deal with it, my sister was the same and said I did not need this op but she has come around and now supports me all the way. So glad you've got your boss on side so at least that's one pressure off don't worry about seminar they weigh you and then a group talk. Their is someone else on here the other day going to the same seminar as you so you might have a journey buddy x

Cheers wencho I hope I do recover as well as you, they told me that were not allowed to lie down flat and have to sleep siting up for 48 hours that should be interesting lol. Well of to sleep 5am start tomorrow ouch will report when I'm done x

i actually wasnt bothered about the sleepin up bit in hosp as the beds move 4 ya feet part so ya actually not tht bad but wen i was home it was worse as pillows kept slippin dwn haha...im still sleeping slightly elevated was told its best to until injections n socks come off on day 10.
yet agen good luck to yous both...not heard from louise hope shes ok n not too nervous!
