Really cant decide ;(

From everything I have read and barring complications the only factor in your success is you. Whatever surgery you choose as long as you are prepared to follow its rules, work with it and address the issues that led to this point you will be successful. I had the bypass and am thrilled with my choice, but I do feel that, as badly as I want to loose this weight, I would have done well with any surgery. Perhaps not as fast, but still eventually reached the same point.

Couldn't agree more :)

I do think it is a very personnel choice that needs discussing with an expert!!
I always wanted the band!! But ended up with the bypass! And don't regret it! I think you need to know your self best would you cheat if you had the band? Where with sleeve and bypass there are not a lot of room to cheat!! Being honest with yourself is it a temporary change or a life time?
Do you have medical problems? There is a lot to consider!
We all started of in the same place fat and not wanting to be! It's life style changes a tool to help you but 1 st you must want the help!!
For me with the band I didn't like the thought of a port hole under my skin and the risk of infection!
And having fills at different times!
With the bypass I hated the thought of dumping syndrome and such a major op!
But in a lot of ways I am pleased that I get dumping as I stay well away from them foods
Almost a deterrent!!
Everyone's different you will find what suits you and your needs!
Ask lots of questions and look up loads this site is a massive help!!!
Good luck xxxxx

My thoughts on why I opted for band:
Non permanent
Still can have nice stuff (in moderation) as sugars don't have to be tracked etc
No pills every day to make it do as it should
just as effective, results are driven by us, not the op and so put effort in and you get the same result either way! So a bypasser with little focus can still struggle

Good luck, I lost 7st in 9mth with my band (bulk of it was off in 6mth in fairness), and I love it :)

Happy deciding :)

Wow well done you, that's a fantastic weight kiss and in such a short space of time!
Thank you for your post ;) X

Thank you so much Melissa this post as helped a lot, if there is any other advice you can give me and more of an insight of your life now (after the bypass) I would really love to hear it ;)
All the reasons to have bypass makes so much sense I'm just so worried about the op I'm only 27 with two babies so need to be amherst for them X

Like the ladies have said. Wls is a fantastic tool for anyone prepared to put in the work. All can be successful, but any can have complications and failures too. I love my band, and is was 100% the right choice for me. Wishing you the best of luck, with whichever route you choose.

I had a band fitted two years ago and it hasnt worked for me because i never really had good restriction no matter how many fills i had? But there have been others that have had fantastic results. I think the reason i failed the band is because i love food and only ate (pre band)because i wanted to and not because of hunger if that makes sence so i would eat virtualy on and off during the day and never really got to experience hunger so when i had the band fitted i never recognised when i was full and stop because i was used to carrying on eating wether i felt full or not. Basically i could eat little and often and could "cheat" it.

I think at my appointment with the surgeon i should of had a bypass but it came down to money and i thought that it might work so i went for it unfortunately i am now having to pay again for surgery and i have learnt a valuable lesson that if you hear all the facts and think that one is better over the other then dont let the cost get in the way just try and save if it is more expensive.

The band can be a wonderful "tool" for lots of people but it dosent work for everyone.

Thanks misshell and your exactly the same as me that's the reason I am swayed more towards the bypass, I just worry so much about things going wrong ;,( but I just need to think well things are going to go wrong anyway being this overweight!
Thank you for posting, when is your surgery date sweet? X

my surgery is 27th of this month and i cant wait lol sure im worried about surgery again but i know im in safe hands and i have read so many success stories. I just wish i had gone with my instincts 2 years ago and had the bypass i could be all slim now! But at least im doing it now im feeling really posotive because i know i cant cheat with the bypass and also from what ive read really wont have any appetite which sounds strange but i am really looking forward to this the most

Yes exactly Hun, at least your correcting it now, I am starting to feel more positive now with all these great posts X

Dont kid yourself that the bypass means you will never be able to cheat and eat bad stuff again!I dont dump and can eat anything sweet with no adverse affects apart from a hot flush!Restriction is a great thing but you can graze all day, flush food through with liquids and start again!
I have found I dont eat a proper meal with protien and eat too many carbs hence 7lbs on!Ok this is over 18 months but its not good. You still have to be strong willed to do it properly.Best of luck with whatever you decide.Maz x

Ask me anything Hun! With any surgery it's scary I have 4 kids and was very stressed and worried but think its nature of the beast!! I am very open and honest and happy to chat with you any time xxx

Hi Maz it's good to hear another point of view so thanks for posting ;) so would you say when you kind of get past 18 months you can eat like you used to?
Once I have lost my weight I am never going back to that place it's very dark and depressing right now so I will be more than happy to work my end of the deal X

Thanks for offering your support Melissa, can I ask when you are at goal what kind of tablets will I need to take for the rest of my life? X

You will have to take calcium and a multi vitamin for life and perhaps have iron injections(i havent). If you eat a good diet you shouldnt need anything else. Its because we dont have chance to absorb all the nutrients from the food as it goes through so fast.
If you dont dump and you will soon find out if you do get bypassed, you can eat all the sweet stuff you used to.Its just smaller amounts satisfy.I have dumped in the first few weeks but no more,so I am struggling with sweets and cakes.I developed a sweet tooth!I was a savoury person preop but not any more.I would love pasties, sandwiches, crisps and chippy meals, now its sugar in coffee, cakes and sweets.

I am not at goal yet but as far as I know at the moment a good multi vitamin. Unless you have other medical tablets to take! Are you looking at NHS or private?? Xx

I'm looking at private as I don't have any other problems, but I'm glad I'm going private now as the waiting list is like so long on the NHS X

It is long!! I was quite lucky once got past the funding bit was quick!
Have you made an app to see a consultant?
It is difficult some days your head telling you 1 thing and body another!! But you over come that!
I read lots of people are happy with the band and that is great! But I am also reading the band doesn't seem to work anymore so people are then having the bypass on top!! I think if evaluate your life what you want to achieve and take from there we all have the greatest intentions but some times we slip!
Do you know your downfall foods? X
