Hi tranquil, i hope all goes well foryou too x
I have a friend who was also in the system that has received the same letter - even with a bmi over 50 they wont fund unless you have either diabeties ,sleep apanea (spelt wrong i think) hypertention or a cholesterol condition i cant remember the name of . even if your in the system they won't fund it ! its been an emotional rollercoater to be honest.

I can imagine. What a disappointment for you having gone through all of that. Glad you have found a way to still have the surgery and I hope you keep using the site. You get fantastic support and encouragement here. All the best.

no i gave up 2 wweks before surgery and havent gone back to them. our doctors at sunderland wont do it unless you have given up.

Srh request that people give up but are not over strict with this request x

it is better if people can stop as it hinders healing and people are more prone to infection x

I gave up about three weeks before surgery, and touch wood I have not even had a craving since having the op, actually the smell turns my stomach!! Just do your best that is all you can do, but at least give it a good shot for your own sake xx

Hiya im a smoker (hangs head in shame )
I have to say that its obviously much better if you can stop but i didnt and can honestly say that it made no difference to me at all !! i didnt have a cough or anything and used the walking about in the wards as a good excuse to go down and have a cigarette :O
i know im really bad but just being honest !! :D
xx

Ask your doc for Champix tablets,my hubby smoked for 50 years 30 a day.Works really well, not wanted one since starting not irritable.

I gave up with Champix too.....smoked 80 a day for over 30 yrs and gave up over 5 yrs ago :D Not looked back since! XX

I'm not a smoker, but was quite chesty & coughing after I had my bypass & it hurt!!! If you can give up before you go in, it will be to your benefit as you are more likely to heal quicker & will be less prone to infection (I think j.u.s.t.l.i.z mentioned that too) xxx

Yep you need all the oxygen in your blood/system to heal, dont use it up smoking.Try the Champix you will be fag free and have more money for your new wardrobe!

Hi clare ,how did your chest feel afterwards ? If you dont mind me asking,
How many years had you smoked for ?

Hiya Lindy

Sorry for the late reply, my chest was fine afterwards all i had was pain in my left shoulder after i had the operation but with taking windeze 3 times a day it soon settled down, it was the trapped wind, i've been a smoker for 25 yrs hun ( yes very early smoker i know ) hope all goes well for you, please keep us updated :) x

smoker survived !

Hi , just wanted to say thanks for all the advice , everything seems to have gone fine - other than an unexpected hernia that had to be fixed too !
My chest was fine although they did keep my on oxygen for 24hrs after and i have compression socks for 2 weeks and injections for 2 weeks - which i assume is all because of my filthy habit !lol
