Hi Sam I am eating normally now just in very small amounts. Trying to stick to porrage in the mornings I have been out today for lunch Was a cavery place so had turkey roast pots carrots peas cauli yorkshire pud and gravy but only ate half the pud 1 potato a few carrots peas a bit of cauli and a tiny bit of turkey so I left most of it lol

Just had for tea a potato croquet with 1/4 tin of spicy beans

Not had any sweet stuff yet the thought of dumping scares me. Cause I'm not drinking fizzy pop now (2-3 litres a day pre op) I am drinking more tea used to have a cup a month lol not a big hot drinker

I have had the odd chip when pete has some. Also had a salmon fillet with salad that was nice

So really I am trying stuff and getting use to eating small amounts and not eating fast.

Snacking on baby bel and laughing cow try get more protein in

Hope that all makes some sence

Teen, this is such good news for me. I absolutely love a carvery!!!!!!! Glad they won't be off the menu for ever xx

Heya Twig, Its ok, getting a bit bored now and craving something more, but I will wait until the end of next week and perhaps try something then. Glad all went well with your first appointment chuck, it will soon come along and you will be in my position. I will have to gatecrash a B44 meet once I'm eating again! Take care. x

waiting times

I live in Erdington, Birmingham. I am under BENPCT and was referred by my GP late September/early October 2008. I simply walked into his surgery, blurted out that I want to be considered for WLS and he referred me (after checking the criteria).

Had my first appointment at Walsall Manor on 6th November. At that appointment I was weighed, height measured, BMI calculated (just over 50).

I then saw Ana, the bariatric specialist nurse and then Dr. Hartland. Roux en Y gastric bypass by open surgery was suggested as the best choice for me and I agreed. I was told by both Ana and Dr. Hartland that there is a 4 - 5 months waiting list for surgery.

My next appointment for 27th March 2009 (with the psychologist) came through before Christmas. I spoke with Ana as to why I am having this and I was worried that I would not be added to the list until after then.

She assured me that it did not affect that and that he was seeing me to check how I am coping and would potentially cope with WLS. I am currently off work with severe depression and have a history of depression.

I have been waiting for my date and also being impatient I chased my funding last Friday. I spoke to the lady who sends the funding applications out and it was sent on 22nd December.

I then rang the lady at the PCT who deals with the funding requests and she said she hadn't had anything for me, though had received some dated after 22nd December.

I rang the lady at Walsall Manor on Monday to be told she had sent it to the wrong PCT! She then emailed it over to BENPCT the same day and indeed rang me back to assure me she had done so.

This afternoon I received a call from WM to say that they had had an email response from BENPCT and I have had funding agreed.

Am now waiting that magic brown envelope that will have my surgery-related dates in.

hello there it seems that waiting times depends on where you live from what i gather i am in cradley heath so under dudley health authority i ws told when i had my bypass in october last year that anyone from dudley authority gets automatic funding this was told to me by mr khans secretary . i know someone who is going for gastric bypass this sunday 8th march and she also went through very quickly . i would like to hear from anyone who is suffering from the dreaded dumping syndrome as im doin it a lot lately..lost 5 stone and seemed to have come to a standstill im back in clinic 31st march 09 for second check up , i have been told tho that it is quite normal to stop weightloss then start again anyone had this experience ? cheers mel

Hi mel , I'm only 2wks post op so I have'nt experienced dumping yet, thankfully. Just wanted to say hi cuz I aint seen ya on here before. x

Hi Mel! Gr8 to see you here with the Posse!

We have found that WM varies incredibly with waiting times, admin and processes in general. There doesn't seem to be any two of us the same.

I am pre-op so know nowt about dumping othert than what my OH gets occasionally as he is diabetic, but am sure someone will be along soon. Plus, there are loads of bypassers/banders elsewhere on the WLS secvtion who will always reply and are very helpful and supportive.

You've arrived at a great place!

Well done on the 5 stone this far

From what I have read and been told by friends on here, it doesn't seem unusual for 'plateauing' to occur. Have a look in the sticky threads for a thread called 'Pouch rules for dummies' or something similar. That covers pouch management and is useful for those who have slowed or plateaud (sp?).

Keep talking!

Hi Mel,

No advice re the dumping Im afraid as I am pre op - but just wanted to welcome you and congratulate you on your amazing loss so far x

Hiya Sam I was sent about a year ago to Kingstanding for exercise on prescription went had about 5 go's where the trainer was with me and it was free but after that had to pay think got a £1 off or summat. But think some lesuire centres are doin summat at the mo where you get 3 months free.

Dee x

Thanks for that Dee. Was just looking on the KS leisure centre website and I think it covers aqua aerobics but not certain. I might make a dr's appointment to find out more.

We could get passport to leisure?

I'm up for Aqua Ft any time Nat, I'm happy to work around you with you having a baby.

Allie I was the same week three was my worst week just totally fed up of liquids, didn't fancy anything and really struggled to get the fluids in I was so tired and lethargic, Been on sloppies two and a half weeks now and feel so much better.

Iv hit a two week platue every bypasser I know is reasuring me its normal at this stage, our bodies hit a stand still and needs time to adjust I lost 31lb in three and a half weeks then stopped, My period was a week late and the second platue week was my period week iv been reassured that now im on sloppies and that period is out the way things should kick in... It's a huge shock to the system our bodies just need time to catch up... there is no way im over eating tats an impossible reason it's all down to starvation mode and a shock to the system.

You will pick up once on slopp's I struggled to keep anything down at first but since Iv started to use lactofree products I've not been sick once... Life is a lot more comfortable ..

Hi all
thanks for the welcome.
I'd like to know more about exercise on pres if anyone got any info, hoping that it would cover swimming as that's the only thing i can do.
I cant believe how quick some of you are losing the weight.

cheers Terri. Thats what I looked at last night. It seems rather good though. Sounds like you get a 12 week free pass and can use it for aqua aerobics, swimming, gym etc etc. I think I might go and see Dr and get referred.
