Hi Eze

I went to my docs for referal on the friday, and he called me with a phone number to call on the wednesday. I called the number which was to book an initial appointment and it was for 3 weeks 4 days ahead.

Some people got it thru the post and didnt get a phone number.

roughly about 4-5 weeks from referal to app i think

Can I just say and please don't take me wrong on this...

At the Heartlands they generally only seem to be banding! If you want a choice of bypass of band you need to have a serious think and ask your GP to make the referral to Mr Khan at Walsall.

I'm not saying there is out wrong with the band I'm just saying if your more steered towards Bypass then you really do need to be under Mr Khan!

I really hope this post is not taken out of context it's simply a little advice I'm not saying you shouldn't go the Heartlands I'm just explaining that if you think a bypass may be in your best interest then it's Walsall that you need to be referred to.

How long roughly for funding from your initial app???? just so i can keep an eye on it lol

Around 5 - 6 weeks T, but if youve not heard anything after say 4 weeks just give em a ring and make sure its going through.

I'm not Anti band I'm pro choice and I don't think you have a choice at the Heartlands I know I never I was told band or nothing and I was banded before Patient Choice was available...so I had no choice in which hospital i was referred to back then... i don't know many bypass patients from Heartlands I only know bandsters ...

I'd rather you know this now than months into the process at least if your very early days simply asking your GP to make the referal to Walsall is only a few weeks time delay and not when your well into the process...

Again I'm not saying one hospital is better than the other or one surgery is better than the other it's just about what you feel is best for you and the choice at is available at the hospitals concerned...

Hi Rachael! I'm fine, had a meeting in Huddersfield today so had a grotty drive through fog on windy, high roads! Lovely drive back though in that late afternoon sun. Just looking forward to getting our pup home now! How are you doing?

Hi ,
Thanks for all the advice guys, to be honest i seem to have been told that band is what i have been put forward for by the consultant at sandwell hospital who referred me to heartlands( maybe something to with the amount of problems i had with a previous op early last year)I have looked everywhere and am settle of the band rather then the bypass so dont really mind going to heartlands, is there a number i can chase the appt up with or is it just a case of being patient (trying to in my case hehe) again thanks for all the help you guys are giving me i really appreciate it !

It was 9 weeks for me, though she did send the application to the wrong PCT! My funding application was sent off on the 22nd December and despite Christmas/New Year breaks and wrong PCT, it was still mega-quick compared to other areas.

It is vital you phone up and check at some point. I'd use Sam's experience as a guideline, I'm sure she'll advise when to phone etc. :D

Your pre-ops or 'MBE' (Magic Brown Envelope as we call it on this thread) will appear when your funding is confirmed.

Hi all
Do I get a letter when Walsall applies for funding and does anybody know what the chances are of getting funding with Telford & Wrekin PCT?

Thanks
Mandy

Hello everyone

Welcome Mandy, Ali, and Eze, (sorry if i have missed anyone out) to this very chatty and quite mad bunch, we are all at different stages, some are post op, some are pre-op...oh and some are just dangling. Dont ask, its a long story, LOL.

Dont be afraid to ask questions it will help, and we are here to support each other.

Come back Terri... we are all ears!

Hello everyone I'm back - no don't worry I haven't been up the hospital all this time:rotflmao: had loads of visitors wanting to know my date lol

Well we were 30 minutes late going in - he started by saying I was the wrong patient because he was expecting a man lol Told me all my tests were really good and normal and was shocked at mt lung function test because it was good for an asthmatic. He said that i would be called in to either walsall manor or the private hospital 7 miles away ( I presume this is the spire little aston?) within 4-6 weeks time so all being well it will all be over and done with by the end of april.

I do have a question to those post bypassers did any of you ring up for your appointment date rather than wait for a letter? because the waiting is really hacking me off.

Hey Terri

Been waiting for an update from you! Any news about whether they are going to do the op keyhole or not? If they are still waiting to hear that might explain why they havent given you a date today.

in that case Id be ringing in a day or two to pester them for a date Terri xx

Oh i have forgotten all about calling Tracey Lowe but i will do it tomorrow :D
xx
