My doctor isnt really that supportive was thinking about changin gp,s and find a gp that wud help xx Not sure that wud make a difference though as the hospital is higher than them,i think!

you are right Sarah, the hospital are the "experts" when it comes to weight management and surgery so I dont suppose changing GP will help. I just thought that if your existing one was supportive he might help fight your corner.

wow i didnt relise you could get diet clubs on script. I new you can get gym memebrship on script

Hi Sarah I know how you feel I had a real nightmare with the manor but u will get sorted Hun. Weightloss wanabee I got offered the change of hospital from the women at the pct who approves the funding but I am sticking with mr khan and from what everyone else has said about him tonight I wouldn't feel comfortable going with anyone else I will accept u as a friend bab but the phone won't let me to it so I will have to do it when I get to a computer but thanxs bab.

Thanks, Nat. x

I'm so sorry you are having a bad time of it Sarah. The advice Sam has given is good (she does that lots!) and also, if you can get Slimming World on script, then all the better.

Walsall Manor is part of Walsall Hospitals Trust. This is different from Walsall PCT wouldn't go to the PCT.

I would contact Walsall PCT and find out what their criteria is. You do meet NICE criteria, but you need to know if they have added the weight loss clinic criteria. Some PCTs do.

Hi Sarah I am really sorry that u are going through this crap.I think it's really horrible that they let u get u hopes up and u think u qualify and they knock u back like that but I was wondering if u have tried xenical from the doctor I had them and I did rosemary conely and I lost 5 and half stone in 6 months they do work but u have to try aswell u can't abuse them they didn't work for my friends dad though cause he was having fried breakfasts with them so obviously it ain't going to work. rosemary conely is good aswell coz u do exercise while u there and they have different levels I go there every week do yes I am big girl but I am not flabby with it people don't believe I am as big as I am by just looking at me coz even the hospital thought I was 5 stone less than I am.so I would give that ago if I was u then u have tried everythink.

Just testing if my signature works, can't work out how to do it!!! Decided everyone else had sparklies so if that reflects their natures, I'll have one which reflects mine!!! Aging hippy!

I have made my FINAL decison i am having whatever surgery i need to...band or bypass...

I am doing what i want and not what others think...i think even my friend (my very best friend) isnt supporting me but hey...I need to do this.

good on ya naughty puppy - you need to whats ight for you, your friend will come round in time you just have to educate her as well. Get your appt and funding and everything out the way and then you can concentrate on showing them it is right for you. Is you fiancee behind you on the subject? if so then thats all that matters for now. If they care about you they will after the initial shock get over what ever it is thats bugging them and will support you. But just take it one thing at a time as it says in a book I have just finished reading everything has its own time. Keep your chin up chuck (((((((HUGS)))))))

Hello everyone it has taken me 25mins of reading to catch up with you all, LOL.

Teen i live in Cannock.
welcome craftyfox...love the name.
Hope your all well, glad to see that some have dates for pre-ops. I am hoping to have a date for the visits where you sign the consent form.

Sarah...you gotta keep going you will get there, honest.
Rachel...good for you for chasing, some of my friends dontwant me to have it either but its not up to them at the end of the day, and probably have no idea what its like to struggle with everyday things.

Hiya Vicky, this thread moves quickly lol.

Did you say it was March you were down for surgery? Have you had your pre op appointments yet or are they coming up soon?

What a great idea.
Hello everyone I’m John and I live in Wombourne, I’m under Staffordshire PCT my BMI was 59.6 and I weighed in at 178kg (28 stone) at my first visit to the Manor to see Dr Hartland.

I have high blood pressure, type 2 Diabetes, aching legs and back obviously and I’m 59 years old

My GP had never had anyone ask for this surgery before so he didn’t know what to do, he then wrote to Mr Khan for advice, when he received a reply he saw me again about 2 weeks later, after which he referred me to the Manor, that was the 8th August 2008.

My first appointment was with Dr Hartland only and that was on September 22nd.

This is the point the Manor applied for my funding and is the longest wait I had.

My second appointment was to have all the medical tests and fill out lots of forms with a nurse, this was on 14th November.

Mr third appointment was with Mr Youseff and that was on the 2nd December.

My letter offering me a surgery date came on the 5th December and that date was to be 17th of January 2009.

And that’s when I had it done

I never met Mr Khan, Ms Heitmann, Ana Elshaw, Georgia Windrass or Dr Kendric.

Mr Khan came to shake my hand in the corridor as I walked in to theatre, Ana Elshaw and Dr Hartland came to give me my medication on the last day as I was leaving the hospital and Georgia Windrass phoned me at home the following day to tell she would be sending me some diet information in the post, the rest of the team I have never met.

Hi, John,
What a difference a week makes! This time last week you had it all to do. Now look - a real inspiration to us all.
Great to hear everything is going well. Have really enjoyed reading the blog. It helps to read other people's experiences.
Please keep posting.

Hi, Nat,
Live in Birmingham. GP has referred me to Walsall Manor, just waiting to hear now.
Feeling a bit hacked off, though. Phoned the doctors yesterday to ask when my referral had been sent off and they told me 'on Thursday 22nd' aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder I haven't heard anything yet!

To be honest the only person who is 100% behind me on this is my fiance and like i said to a few others at the meeting on Wednesday if it wasnt for him i wouldnt be here anyway. His love and support is what is getting me through all of this.

(cheeeeeese i know lol)

Would the outpatients people be in today do you know?

I must say you must be devastated, so sorry, bad news.
one thing is though that you have got time on your side, I imagine your not as old as me, what with kids and all, so take it from me you do have time.
Now I don't know what you've done in the past but my advice is to involve your doctor as much as possible, tell him your depressed about your weight, your going to a diet club, ask him about diet tablets, in other word it's very important that all this goes down on your medical record.
When you go and see the Doctor deliberately look as fat as you can by wearing baggy clothes, sound out of puff when you go in, cry if you can, he needs to convince these faceless wonders at Walsall that you need this operation.
It'll take time but you do need his support because I do know Mr Khans team talk to your GP at length.
I've been to every club going and the Doctor new about it, I've taken every diet pill he can find for me, he even sent me to a Psychologist for 12 months, so he knows and, more importantly, it's on my record that I've being trying to lose weight for years.

And that's what you need to do for as long as you can.

I don't want to sound harsh but there surely must be something they're not happy with about your case and you need to find out what that is so that you can put it right.

Once again my heart goes out to you, but hang on in there and you will get you operation, just take it as a challenge.

Hi Natalie,

The referral will go to a lady by the name of Tracey. Give it a week then ring her to see if she has received it (me & Sam have deffo got her extension number). She's also the lady who sends the funding applications off to the relevant PCT.

What PCT are you under? I have prolly asked you this already, but I am a forgetful biddy of late!
