Body fortress from H&B is good, just don't buy too much in case you can't tollerate it. To be honest in the early days plain old skimmed milk is as good as any protein drink Caren.

Thanks Karlos, when they say low carb, i take it that means rice, potatoes etc, am i ok to have salad?

Salad's ok Caren....long as no fatty oily dressings ;)
Don't bother with big huge tubs of protein powder, you may be like me and heave at even the smell of them, believe me they DON'T taste like chocolate, they also go right through me so I eventually gave up and had marvel in skimmed milk :)
Try to find the sample size packs of powder.

Thanks angee, its so expensive too!!
im guessing its 2 weeks of salad then lol xxx

The only protein powder I use is PHD diet whey, from holland & Barrett - chocolate orange flavour, not cheap but can be bought in a 1kg pouch or larger tub, and is about the only one I really enjoy. It doesn't have that chalky cardboard taste that most do! It's wicked mixed with Fage yoghurt!

Helllloooooo Darlin ... have you been yet? If not, don't waste your money :p SS milk doubled up with Marvel is all you need at this stage. Protein shakes mostly taste yak but a good old milky coffee, or Options + Marvel can (for most people) be a godsend. OOO excited for you, lovely .. soon be done & dusted. :D:D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I was told no salad for 12 weeks as the high fibre content can be hard for your new pipework to digest. The nutritional content of salad compared with the low volume you will have room for means it should be eaten in small quantities, it's not like when we were dieting and used huge amounts of salad to fill us up while delivering low calories. Now you need the best nutritional benefit that you can get from a smaller volume of food, hence protein first as this gives you the best bang for your buck.

Also in the early days you will get sufficient carb energy from your fat stores but you need as much protein as you can cram in to help with the healing process. Once you're on solid food it's a case of protein first then if you have room add in complex carbs to fill up the corners LOL

Hi sweets ... It is only the 2 weeks up to your op you are looking at at the minute, isn't it? If so check this out :) xxx

There are a variety of obesity diets used in centres across the country. They all achieve the same results. Some centres use yoghurt and milk or milkshake sachets. We have opted for a diet that is based on food, although the portions are smaller than you will be used to and there are no high fat and sugar treat foods. A sample menu is given below.

Breakfast

Small bowl of cereal (25g or the size of a small multi pack box)

Or

1 medium slice of toast with a scraping of margarine

Lunch

1 slice bread or 2 crisp breads

Salad (no dressings, unless just vinegar based - no oil)

Small portion of meat or fish (size of pack of playing cards), cheese (size of a small matchbox), or 2 eggs

Dinner

1 small potato or 2 tablespoons of cooked pasta or rice
Vegetables - any vegetables but try to have mostly the green varieties.
Small portion of meat or fish, cheese, eggs, quorn, or a tofu dish (portions as above)

One third of a pint of milk over the day for drinks and cereals
Two portions of fruit (a portion is one apple, one pear, one small banana, an orange, or a handful of berries).
Water, tea, coffee, low calorie squash, low calorie fizzy drinks allowed freely. (Limit fruit juice to one glass per day.)
One low fat low sugar yoghurt or fromage frais per day.

The diet is essentially 800kcals, but it is important that it is balanced and relatively low in carbohydrates as well. You can follow a liquid diet, sometimes people find that easier, as you don’t have to make food choice. To have the same effect you can use Slimfast, you will need to take 4 milkshakes/fruit smoothies a day. If you have any Cambridge or Lighterlife sachets hanging around from previous diets you can use these but make sure you don’t go below 800kcals a day, this is because you are going into an operation and you don’t want your body to be too depleted.
