A Step in the Right Direction

WTG Kirsty I believe (dont quote me) that in order to lose -2lb a week u need a deficit of 1000 cals a day IE if you eat 1000 u need to burn 2000 cals :)
to lose 1.5lb a week u need a deficit of 750 cals a day
to lose 1lb a week a deficit of 500 a day
to lose 0.5lb a week u need a deficit 250 cals a day
hope that helps :) its all on your fitbit anyway just takes sometime to get used to setting it all up

I wonder how many calories we use up by just 'being' ?

I suppose if the average woman needs to eat 2000 to maintain her weight then it must be around 2000+ for a wee fattie like me - I need to work out how to set up my fit bit in this regard as it is telling me I am only burning 1000 cals a day approx :-(

your welcome hunni...... your fitbit automatically tells you what you calorie burn will be for the day (somehow it works it out?) but you can over ride that so it only tells you your calorie burn when you've burnt it.
Of course to burn the calories is easier to begin with because it takes more energy to move your body around :) as you get smaller u have to work harder to burn what you need to burn to get your loss.

I worked it out one day..... if i have a day at home (crafting) minimum movement even eating just a mere 700 cals i wouldn't lose weight!!!! it sure is scarey..............
 
What is a fit bit please? Last year I took part in a corporate challenge at work whereby you had to do 10,000 steps a day. You had to do it from the end of May through to September. I managed to do it by being at the gym at 0630 before work. There were challenges through it like doubling your steps, etc. I had an oncology appt in the October thinking I will have lost loads of weight with all that exercise and I put on 2kg. I just got disheartened then so reading all your stories I want to have an op today!!! Everyone seems to be doing so well but I don't think I will be using the fitbit as I think that would be a step too far. I would just be constantly checking it and there's not enough time in the day for that!!!!

A fitbit is a activity tracker (pedometer) so it tells you how many steps you take, plus how many calories you burn. Also it tracks sleep, and you can keep track of the food you eat (join it up to mfp) The 10000 steps is said to be 'for fitness' lol it was a recommendation from my hospital too ...... it is a challenge to achieve everyday.......everyone has a real life to maintain too :) but beneficial with our weight loss..........

Debbie. Before I got my fit bit I only used to track my walking with a phone app and could never get past 5k. I'm not saying it's easy but getting to 10k is easier with a fit bit. You wear it al, the time and it's amazing how many steps you take going about your business. Where as I only used to track what I considered excersise I now track all my movement

To get to 10k I walk my dogs for an hour, maybe do a couple of hours shopping and generally try to get up every hour and move about the house

I find mine does motivate me x

I think it helps knowing intake v output i know for certain i would have not lost what i have without my fitbit. Its my motivation everyday :)

ha ha. Will look out for them Chrystal. Sometimes I take mine for a short stroll if I'm just short of 10k
 
Today i've been on a mission LOL hubby really upset me this morning saying 'i'd lost focus' soooooooo take that !!!!! 24147 a massive 11 miles on my clock............. i must have made John O' Groats by now??? will check in morning :) night all sleep well (i know i will) x x x x

just proving a point lol Tomorrow fitbit clipped to him see how he copes LOL

I have been browsing back over stats back in April i could burn over 3000 cals just walking a couple of miles today i couldn't reach that by walking 11 miles!! just shows how much harder it becomes the smaller we get.

My god Chrystal..way to go...that sounds like a lot of focus to me

I am going to post a calories in and out post on my diary as I can't agree with the info my fit bit is giving me...too disheartening lol. Have a read may cheer you up a bit too x

Sent to bed here as my heart rates shot up to 121bpm at rest....too much excitement I guess lol. Not liking it coz 27 in the shade I want to swim. Had to have it checked coz hubby said I looked pale. Even with a tan. :eek:
