Debs ramblings about her NHS sleeve...

Well a good week into purée now and the horror of last Monday's first attempt has faded! It's been ok after scrambled egg gate!!! ???

I actually do feel restriction with more firmer foods. Yesterday for speed (home alone this week) I had bought a weight watchers shepherds pie. Served half of the single portion, grated some cheese into it and I was stuffed as that came to an end. So that's fairly positive. I still don't feel that ravaging hunger that tormented me pre surgery. Another big plus.

I can see though that if I ate this every hour or two weight gain would be possible. So it's not a tool to a use for sure. I am not planning to do this - but I've seen now that I can eat restricted meal sizes but could do that 8-9 times a day and my tool would be defeated. Makes me stay focused on mindful eating.

I sometimes grab a drink to early after food. I think pre op if I feel full or anything was stuck a huge swig of water was the answer. Getting out of that is hard. Not that I drink with food. I don't even put it out. But 10-15 mins later and I pick up my drink bottle without thinking. Boy do I regret it but it's a mistake I keep making. I think I miss having iced water with my food. Lol.

My fattest clothes don't fit ! Whit woooo!!! My size 24's now are redundant and I am easily into a 22 and one or two 20s fit. I don't wear clothes tight - can't stand feeling constricted. So at almost 19 stone and 5'7" I was in a 24. Charity shop is happy! I have clothes in size 18-24 in my wardrobe so I am not spending £££s yet. Just going to see how I cope. Not working full time makes this easier - can't be easy for those who have to be suited and booted each day for work.

Shoes - an unexpected victory is my shoes are not hurting and indeed some are too big. Guess even free NHS WLS is gonna be expensive!!!!

My weight loss is very steady and very subdued! I've lost nothing in over a week. Not since started more solid food. My calories are usually 600 but can reach 900 a day. My protein is always at least 50gms and has been over 80 on some days. My fluids are 1-2 litres of water on top of tea and coffee etc. just isn't dropping at a jaw dropping rate.

So I started pre op on last day of April - so it's almost 11 weeks combined LRD and post op diet. I lost more on pre op I guess if weekly comparisons are your thing.

Here is the overall picture. Hope everyone has a brilliant week.

Good morning op-bud, I have been keeping an eye out for your update. :). I know we are on different regimes and even ops but, definitely as regards weight loss, we sound very similar. The bottom line is hun, the weight is going down and that is what counts. :).

You triggered a memory there, about shoes getting too big. When I lost my 9 stone with my original wls that was the last thing I expected, I have very wide feet anyhoo so that was a great bonus albeit expensive. I did have more choice.

Re the water. If you can hold off then you do feel full for much longer especially once the food gets more solid. I put a timer on my ipad at first and made sure my drink was not at my side and to date have been fine. Sometimes I Leave it longer than half an hour.

Do you feel any hunger or are you eating because its meal times? I am thinking about food far too much, maybe because my mobility stops me from being as busy as I would like. Probably explains me getting through a 1000 calories. Yes I have thought how easy it would be to overeat just by getting more meals in.

Oh I do like that weight app.. Which one us it?

It was good to hear from you, I am so glad you got past your initial issues with puree. :D

Take care lovely Debs :flowers: hugx

Just a quickie Chrissy as I am dashing. I love the app also. It's very reassuring to see I've lost 30% of my excess weight and moved from a BMI of over 41 to just over 35. I know my pound losses as far less than most - but the app helps me get perspective. We all start at very different places after all. Anyhow - it's called Monitor Your Weight :)

Thanks Deb, looks like I already had it  had to reinstall to get my start weight in etc. but I cant see where I can tell it daily calories unless I am blind or stoopid.

Here is mine, also given we are both the same height not sure how it works out body fat %age. Not a biggie tbh but the calorie one I don't understand.

If you go into the profile and edit profile I found by reducing the time I wanted to reach my target it then reduced my daily calories. This is the setting section.

Thanks Debbie, I think I would have to set it up again as I only get that option on the ipad app at the start. Will play around with it. :)

Well I seem to have a good day and then an awful one.
Sick like hell today on tinned salmon as recommended. Unlike just the foamies this was full on complete purge. Sleeve sore as a result. Very sore.
Back to liquids tomorrow. And then push on again in Friday and hope for more success.

Sorry to hear that Debs, I hope it passes soon. I wonder if tinned fish is harder than fresh, I cant take tuna but fresh baked fish etc OK. My dinner came back tonight as well, little by little, own goal bad food choice.

Everything else OK ?

I have struggled some days with fresh fish and other days is fine. Then I managed tinned tuna but died on tinned salmon. There is no logic!

It's a daily discovery isn't it!!!

Friday 17th July.

Well 5 weeks and 2 day out!

Overall it's been ok I guess. The surgery was ok but the next 2-3 days were not nice. From then on it all got bearable. Liquids are ok and have been more or less from the start. Purée and food is a little more experimental!

Driving at a week out and working at 2 weeks out allowed life to return to normal. Loo habits are as before the op with no remarkable moments. Indeed post op I guess meaning that everything is good.

Weight loss is mind blowing. I lost for the just under the first 4 weeks. In the last 2 weeks I haven't lost a thing. Indeed I've gained a lb!!!! it's extremely disconcerting but I am plodding on.

Clothes are smaller. I was a 24 and can get into some 20s now.

I got presented with an award from my old job this week which was an honour and a surprise!

Have a good weekend

What a lovely photo Debs. you are glowing :)

This weight loss is weird as you say. Its easy to get tangled up comparing yourself to others, but this is our individual journey and we will get there in our own time. This is why I have such an aversion to scales, they don't tell the story.. your clothes getting too big does. I got so much joy ordering smaller knickers yesterday :8855:

Weather blummin miserable here, usual Glasgow summer, so I hope its a bit better down there. :flowers:

ps just about to send you a PM. x

Fab picture Debs you look bloody fab! My head is all over the place at the minute. I can see I have lost weight but my tummy feels and looks enormous! Feeling pretty crap about it to be honest! How are you? xxx

TMI alert

I had a small slice of cooked ham today - chewed and chewed it.

Knew it wasn't going to stay put....foamies and then sick.

New development - my nose really, really started to run when I was being sick. Blew my nose at the end and HAM came out of my nose!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my new WLS trick - ham snot - what a classy bird I am...truly!

It was gross! No more ham!

Oh Dear Debs.

Are you managing any more solid protein?

Weirdly I also tried a slice of that ultra thin ham yesterday , was making a sandwich for my son. It went down OK but I hated the taste as it was all chemically. I sees to have an aversion to processed foods,

OMG! This had me in stitches. Not nice for you though

Your having a time of it!

Your photo is gorgeous. Were you a police officer?

Hope your food issues resolve the selfs soon xxxxx

Protein - yes.

Solid protein - not consistently successful.

I can eat low fat peanut butter, meat like chicken and lean mince once puréed. I can eat fish sometimes - but not consistently.

I have to say mush/mash is not a good phase. Liquids was far easier and no sickness or stress.

I know it will get easier but the burps, indigestion, vomiting etc associated with mash/mush isn't great.

I don't feel ill as such, just issues around eating.

My stalled weight loss is messing with my head. It's well over 2 weeks now since I lost any weight. I've lost under 16 lbs since my op. In almost 6 weeks. Far from racing ahead isn't. It! I lost more in my 5 weeks of LRD.

I am shrinking as I previously said - but that's at at a moderate pace also.

I don't understand how I can eat under 1000 cals a day and walk daily yet only maintain my weight! I was eating like a pig before and yet also maintaining! I am and always will be an enigma!!!!

Ham snot was a new high of a low point!!!

I don't feel ill at all. Indeed I have bags of energy and feel good. My chronic pain is much better.

I do have some reflux and acid issues. But they are not adversely impacting - as yet.

I was a police officer between September 1983 and April 2015. For my sins!

I guess my 'Bobby' award gave it away?

When on liquids we look forward to puree, when on puree mash looks appealing. Once we get there its a big disappointment and the food is mostly bland and unappealing. We end up eating the same stuff everyday. Fage 0% anyone ? What a funny old game this is.

Do you still have 2 weeks on puree to go ? I think it might be time to ask your team for some advice even though it is early days. It might be worth mentioning that reflux as well. Are You on Omeprazole or another PPI ? I tried to cut mine down to 40mg a day but had really bad heartburn so went right back up to 80mg as agreed with my GP. Its been fine since then but will have another go at reduction in another 4 weeks time. Its an expensive drug to be on for life, I don't want to be a burden. :D

As for the weight loss, last weeks weight in took me to 18 pounds off but then again I lost very little on my pre-op so not a lot of difference really. Our bodies sometimes need a break to catch up stalls are pretty common. You are sticking to the rules so it will work out. You know what I think about scales lol, they definitely mess with your head hun.

And the burping... OMG if anyone finds a cure please please share. Its so embarrassing.

I really hope your food issues get better soon Debs. Hugx :flowers:

I still have the burps almost a year on..mine come on when I need to eat..I think we are stuck with them!
