December 2014 Surgeries

Brilliant Marcus. I've lost 12lb in 16 days so their prediction of a stone in the 3 weeks is prob going to be right. You are doing great!

I started milk diet yesterday doing it 14 days instead of the 10 advised just wanna be sure my liver is ok for OP @ just shy 29stone more weight off possible will be a bonus during surgery!! Was gunna do it a bit longer but ended up being yesterday lol I lost 7 lbs when I done it for 2 days a week or so ago but to be honest it flew right back on when I ate normal more healthy diet but this will be till the finish :)

I only spoke to the receptionist about appointment and she didn't even mention starting the pre op diet , but I will start tomorrow as out on works Xmas party tonight , it will be about 12 days now ,

Which surgery are you having?

Pre-op can vary from 10-28 days and there are three main types of pre-op diets - some much harsher than others but rewarding in the end as they result in a smaller liver and short term weight loss. With the surgery it stops the rebound that normally follows rapid weight loss.

Yes, I'm 11th December - converting band to bypass.

Cherub08 I've added you to the list. Let's hope you're in the 80% who can do it with one procedure.

It went ok. It was quite long (4.5 hours) as I bled a bit. But i feel fine now, a little uncomfortable with wind but nothing too horrific, had a shower n some soup without incident. BUT the got the dye they use to check you for leaks in my hair!!! It's green!
Hi Lynsey just want to congratulate you and welcome to the losers bench! I also had dye all down my neck arm back looked liked i had a blue birth mark! Glad your feeling ok after that bless you! Wow soup already. All the best with your journey how much did you lose on your pre op( inly answer if you wish) . X

Hi Sharona - they gave me soup in hospital, it was strained chicken soup with no lumps

I was 20st 11 at my first appointment and I went down to exactly 19st on the day of surgery. I had a few ups and downs with gains so I lost about 1st on my preop x

I realise why I'm feeling so crappy. I've been measuring milk in the shaker rather than in a jug and when I did that and measured in the jug I've been using 175ml of milk for the Slimfasts rather than 250ml. Over three meals that leaves me 225ml short meaning I've been living (and working) on about 440 calories/day when the guideline with Slimfast is 580 calories/day. Actually less than that as I lowered the milk so I could use some in tea/coffee.

The one bonus is that the 'larger' milkshakes feel much more substantial now.

My provider does not allow the ones you make yourself, and only allowed us to use the premade ones.

I'd love to see an article comparing the efficacy of different pre-op diets

Im guessing with that extra boost you should be feeling a whole heap better !

Good luck to all the December folks having surgery. I'll be having the sleeve on December 15th. I'm 5 days into my pre-op diet, not loving it. This site seems mostly for UK people, but I'm from the U.S. so I'm crashing a little because I like the support I see here (sorry).

I've been doing the same, not measuring properly! Wondered why I was so tired and cold......short changing myself!

Thanks Marcus, though this will be my second procedure. Have a band that is causing so many problems and needs to be removed and converted to bypass to reverse all the health problems it's caused! Good luck to you Hun x
