December 2014 Surgeries

I used to be able to eat a whole pizza, now a couple of slices looks a lot. I haven't tried pizza yet and feel it's probably best to try at home as it's a bit more fatty than what I usually have - but craving it a bit so might just go for it. Seems I have a weekly stall and then a weight loss on Sunday. I weight myself about three times a week but Sunday is always the low point. I might try a day on low calories to 'shock' my body into action as Big Dave suggests (after a day high higher cals). As yesterday was on the lower side I'll relax a bit today and go strict tomorrow.

Marcus if your craving pizza..try a thin crust one.
Wish I could have a little,I just can't get the damn stuff down always gets stuck and then I'm sick.
I should be happy really...but would love just a little bit, that would be enough.
Ah well..just had prawns and calamari with veg and a tiny bit of ginger/chilli dressing.

I've never really been much of a fan of pizza. I made my Dad pizza last week and not wanting to 'miss' out, I used a small tortilla and put some of the sauce on it, some low fat cheese and some chopped up pre-cooked sliced chicken. Put it in the oven for five mins to let the cheese melt and make the edges of the tortilla crispy, managed a few mouthfuls, was handsome and a refreshing change. :) Simple pleasures.

I'll use a wrap and make my own 'pizza'. That avoids the bready base and makes it healthier.

Tomorrow. No mushrooms

May also try an aubergine pizza (sliced aubergine in place of a baguette).

Weight seems to be dropping again after a couple of weeks slowing down.

I did one day with higher cals and a day with two liquid meals and one soft meal + NAS jelly and a banana. It seems to have worked to get things moving again.

Leda, hi, don't believe we've met. Looked at your diary, you're about 6-7 weeks post-op RNY, is that correct? If you're doing 700kcal a day, in my experience, a small calorie increase will help get things moving again. I'd try this - increase to 900kcal for a day, then drop to 600kcal. That'll give you variance and almost 'shock' the body into losing weight again. Change is good. Then gradually increase kcal back to around 800 daily. By 12 weeks post-op, I'd be aiming for 800-1200kcal daily. I'm coming up to 10 months post-op RNY and I'm 6lbs away from goal. Discipline with diet is key for me, as is measurement of food and calorie tracking. It doesn't work for everyone I'm sure, as we're all different and our bodies react differently. I definitely think wls is a tool, the hard work is done by our heads... Best of luck. :)
I found this usually works for me to Leda. Dave great advice xx

Did it, weigh day -2lb!!
Im just not losing like everyone else seems to be. Wish I could lose 3lb a week :(

Lo 2nd chance jo ,.......so 12 days since Op , how have you found those 12 days , and have you managed any weight loss in that time ? Im just wondering if I should invest in a set of bathroom scales for after the Op ........is that what everyone else does ? Im from Bedfordshire , born n bred !!!

I lost a stone on the pre op diet and 12lbs on my weigh in last thurs. I get weighed tomorrow so I'm not sure how I've done this week till tomorrow. I do have scales I use them in my kitchen just because in my house it doesn't give an accurate reading upstairs(but mine are always 2 - 3lb out in the wrong direction!) but to be honest I have started using the ones in my local tesco there in a secluded area and have always been spot on with hospitals! It can get very addictive weighing lol

I'm feeling fine really pain for first couple days now it's just an odd twinge. Leda I have achy shoulders not sure if wind or not and I'm suffering a bit from headaches and tiredness but I think I just need to try harder with fluids and meals x

To be accurate it's best to weigh yourself naked. I suggest not in Tesco.

Some floorings are soft or padded and that can result in inaccuracies. On a solid surface readings are consistent at least.

Sounds like your doing well Jo , keep it up and im sure any head aches etc will sort themselves out , ha ha ha yes I can imagine getting on the scales can become a bit addictive because after all , as we get bigger getting on the scales is a def NO GO !!! Perhaps you or someone else can tell me , the docs n nurses etc have told me that when I come out of hospital itd be good if I had someone with me for a couple of days , just to make sure I dont choke etc , just how necassary is this , or is it all manageable on your own on coming out of hospital , did many of you cope ok ??

I wish youd said that sooner Marcus , im in the managers office at Tescos with just a towel to cover my modesty ha ha ha

Yeah. But I don't use a towel and use the scales at the entrance to the main supermarket.

Haha yeah at the minute I just get weighed in my leggings and a light top! I ain't that obsessed...yet!!

Well I think if you are properly prepared frozen meals etc you maybe fine if all goes smoothly that is. I just wanted sleep and have peace but I had 3 kids at home so I didn't have much at all lol I'd at least have someone checking in on you through day tho even just phone calls.

I had breakfast and dinner in hospital and manage very little but no choking issues and non since. Important to stick to the diet your given and to eat slowly and you be fine in my opinion but it is only my opinion your healthcare team may think it's essential for youself x
