Help!!!!

I have a loose tooth!! :(

Oh no Ceecie, is it one you've had problems with in the past perhaps, or do you think it's a direct consequence of malabsorption ? I wonder as well if maybe it could have been damaged when you ha your GA, the anaesthetist warned me that could happen xx

Ohoooo noooo ceecie :(. Have you had your calcium levels checked hun just in case. There is no harm in asking your gp to do this along with other vit checks ... I was so glad I did this as you know ;) x

I spoke to my dietician today. Loose/sensitive teeth is common post bypass due to malabsorption. I need to double up on my 200% vits & mins, calcium and start taking extra vit D3.

I have never had problems with my teeth, never had any treatment and have always had positive feedback from my dentist. So I am shocked....I never read anywhere that teeth could fall out post op. I have to visit the dentist monthly.

My hair is thinning dramatically, skin is very dry and itchy, despite twice daily creaming.

To top it all off, I get dizzy every time I bend over and have to lay down every time I eat.

I've been advised to double my fluid intake to 3-4 litres on top of tea and coffee daily and add Marvel to all wet food. She also said to up my calorie intake by snacking on crisps and chocolate.....never expected that at all and not too happy about it. I feel my addiction is under control at present and didn't want a green light to welcome old habits into my new diet.

I'm hopeful things will improve for me soon. I have now lost nearly 8 stone and really want to get out there and participate in life more.

I hope everyone is ok. I know I've been quiet recently.....just totally shattered with this, along with a few personal probs.

CEECIE will be back in better spirits soon :) xxx

I think I remember Chrisa from here, mentioning her teeth in a post.
Not to sound negative, but there seems a few things doctors fail to mention regarding post op/long term issues involving the gastric bypass.
A lot is down to Ourselves doing own researching once we start experiencing problems, even though myself spent a very long beforehand doing plenty of research.
Like you I'm deficient and have to double up x

Jeepers ceecie I know exactly what you mean in terms of starting on choccie and crisps! I guess if they want u to up cals u could have like some lattes or something rather than choccie x plus won't u dump if u have it?

Ditto on that .. There is a lot more healthier ways to up your calorie intake other than crisps and chocs. Have you had your bloods checked? You sound just like I how I felt when all my vit levels hit rock bottom.

I have lattes everyday, plus refined carbs like bread/pasta/rice etc. they are very happy with my diet and the variety I have. She suggested I eat more processed foods as my cooking style is very simple, literally like a low cal diet. But I can't do that as I like to know EXACTLY what I'm eating (a bit OCD about chemicals/preservatives etc) ...... Thus the highly calorific snacks. She didn't suggest I eat bars of chocolate, just 3 or 4 squares or a pkt crisps as often as I can with a meal to avoid dumping.

Meant to add Ceecie that I have very itchy dry skin to and was given oilatum along with diprobase. It has worked a treat for me although I still have what I call "papery" skin but don't think I will ever get rid of that now.

Hey hunni x

I'm having bloods done tomoz. I think the issue is that I can't physically eat more than I already eat so adding more meals is unrealistic ( although I got up at 3am the other morning and enjoyed a cheeky portion of shepherds pie! Lol) xxx

Are you feeling any better?

I'm a bit like that too hun .. My son suffered a lot of allergies with food additives so since he was born 34 years ago I have been a bit freaky with any processed foods. Every provider is so alarmingly different My dieticians hair would stand on end with those suggestions lol. A packet of crisps would have me dumping fairly quickly. Had 2 rashers of lean bacon last night and off I went grrrrrr.

You see this is why I don't get it!!!! I already eat 3-4 rashers of bacon, crisps are fine, whole bagel with loads of Philly......I eat far more than I ever expected to eat.....have only dumped a handful of times....weird. Maybe it's because I'm bigger?? Xxx

Yes Ceecie I am feeling better. I am still tired but I have to admit my energy levels have not really got back to any where near what they once were. I am certain my vit levels are still low but protocol here says I can't get my bloods checked for another three months yet. My GP tried to send my blood samples but they got sent back from the testing place because it flashed up on their system that I had already had them done early December. So I have to wait till May. How crazy is that. Not sure if the same protocol exists in England. :sigh:

Nah hun I just thinks it's my Donald Duck (luck). I can eat chocolate no problem..ish but still suffer steatorrhea with anything higher fat. I even dump on my antibiotic if I don't take it with my meal and there is no way could I eat a whole bagel as my pouch just doesn't like heavy doughy things at the best of times but a whole steak is no problem while 2 slice of thin roast beef and my restriction kicks right in ...it's just one of things lol

That's terrible Hun!! Surely it doesn't matter how often you have it done if there is a reasonable reason for checking!! Totally rediculous....whatever is going on with the NHS?!

Isn't it strange how different we all are?! You'd just assume that we had the same size pouch and could all eat the dames things and have the same guidelines to follow.....

Hi Cecee, sorry you're not doing too good. Are you OK with nuts? Is that something you could have to up your intake, rather than using the foods commonly related to comfort eating (well, that's how I think of crisps and choc anyway).

Hi Terrilou. I'm having cashew nuts everyday....around 10-15 love them! Also trying to eat peanut butter but really struggle with the texture lol x

Cashews are good. I think Brazils are quite calorific. I love peanut butter, but I could eat it by the jar, so try to avoid it. I can't believe your Dietician gave you that advice. I, like you, like to eat stuff I have cooked from scratch. I try to avoid processed food. It seems uke your Dietician and mine would totally disagree. xx
