Jackie's post sleeve diary

I had whizzed up cottage pie with extra gravy, cod in parsley sauce, Heinz Big Soups. I could usually get 2 or 3 meals out of them. Didn't like tuna at that stage, even in spring water it tasted really salty to me. Oh and cauliflower whizzed with Laughing Cow cheese. Lots of yogurt too

Thanks Lynn, I have been eating the Laughing cow which is a god send. I will make some cauliflower cheese with it. Thanks again xxx

Jackie. Don't worry about your food I ntake just yet. It's too early - you just need to concentrate on recovery. You protein is important to speed up recovery. High quality protein drinks would help with than and your calories. Some are too thick. So e have too much sugar or sweetener in them. I like the Ufit from the chill counter at tesco. They are around 180 calories each and have 22g of protein. They are not too sweet and have a nice thin consistency

Another great tool I found was baxters highland game soup. It has 24g protein per can - baxters are in speyside in our highlands so I don't know if they stock supermarkets south of the border but it might be worthwhile searching online

Some lentil soup or cauliflower cheese soup would give you protein too and go down nice and easy. I will try to post a picture of the cauliflower cheese soup recipie. I would add more cheese

Not all providers would have you on purée yet. So if your body is telling you to take it easy, that's what to do

You will feel exhausted till you can get your calories up but that will take time. Xxxx

Kirsty the Highland Game soup is coming up out of stock everywhere. I know my Mum used to get this one and it was lovely. It's not showing up on their website either, only the Royal Game and that doesn't seem to be as high in protein

Thanks very much for this Kirsty, I am going to give it a go tomorrow. xxx

This sounds great I will try it thanks .

Some great tips and advice!!

Morning everyone
I an still struggling with pureed. I get pain when eating, do you think this is telling me I am eating too much?
Can't wait until I am on normal foods, this pureed stage is just too hard to work out. Then again, it is probably just me being really thick! Ha ha!
Bought a pair of Monsoon trousers yesterday in a size L (16-18) and I can get them on! No the most flattering but I reckon another stone they will look fab! Getting into these properly is my next goal! I love Monsoon clothes :):):)

Hiya, if you are getting pain it sounds like too much too soon. You might be mending nicely on the outside but the inside will be a swollen mess held together with staples. I had 3 weeks fluid before 3 weeks purée, even now at 10 months I deal better with yoghurt and soft food. If you feel pain don't push it. I've taken it very steady and had amazing results which you can see from my diary. Think protein and calcium! Good luck

Thanks for this. I think your right, in a way I wish Sunderland had put me on Liquids first as I think this would be better. I have blended my food down much more the last couple of days more or less to a liquid and have been better.
Do you think I could have caused any damage in the last 10 days. There is always something to panic about in the early days!
I always read your diary, you are an inspiration, you are doing so well!

Thanks again
Jackie
xx

Phone the dietician tomorrow Jackie. I still have days when I get a pain or when I just don't want to eat, thought about protein drinks too, but know they're not really recommended - although I did have a LL one left that I tried and it tasted so sweet! Take it easy xx

Thanks Aud, it's been fine today when I have liquids. I really think the food was just a bit too thick (not pureed enough). I am just frightened that I have caused damage.
How are you doing?
xx

Hi jackie, If you had done any damage I'm sure you would know about it. Just take it at your pace, your tummy will tell you what it likes. The protein yoghurts are good at the early stages, protein calcium and no fat. I still don't like beef for example but an fine with pasta..we are all different!

Not to bad at all thanks, I'm back at the hospital this week and have a few questions to ask - mainly for the dietitian! Had a few up and downs but it's all a learning curve! Xx

I agree with Blondie, does no harm to phone the dietician tomorrow.

Best get your concerns out to your provider but I think like Karina said you would be in s lot of constant pain if you had done any damage xx

I too love monsoon. One of my fav shops. Well done on that 16 xxx

Hi Jackie. Good to read what's to come as you are 6 days in front of me. I hope you're feeling ok. Take care x

2 week weigh update!
I can't believe that 2 weeks is up already. I have lost exactly a stone since op day! Very happy with that! I am now feeling quite well, no more pains when I eat or drink which is so good. I am still making my purees very very sloppy which does make a difference. Still getting about 300 calories in xx

Going great guns Jackie long may it continue! Are you drinking enough? It's still really hard for me and I'm a week ahead of you.
