January 2014 surgeries

tramadol are capsules might be risky swallowing so soon but you could try i have them by the 100 and cant take em hope when im eventually post op i can get something different to them

hope everyone who had surgery recently is recovering slowly and resting and good luck to those who are going in the next few days

i was on dissovable tramadol and liquid paracetamol on hospital and been sent home with codeine phosphate and the liquid paracetamol, i tell you, the paracetamol is awesome, works really well, its called Parapaed, i presume its adult calpol? Its definitely helped me so far.

ps quick question. how long before i can sleep on my side? is there any rule? my back is getting pretty sick of sleeping on it. i tried last night and managed to sleep on my left side with pillows for support, and it didnt hurt, is this ok? im not damaging anything by doing this?

I'm day 4 post op. I'm confused though about my incisions. I have 6x sites. All with dissolving under skin stitches with a couple or little medical strip tapes over in the opposite direction then a steri strip covering. I was told to remove on day four. I can't remember if I should remove all dressings or just the steri strip ?! Anyone know?
I booked an appt with the practice nurse at my drs surgery she checked wounds and removed dressings :)

I've got a full body maternity support pillow. Like a long U shape. It's supported me and kept me comfy and I've slept on my side with no probs. my incisions are quite far round the sides too. Even day two in hospital I was on my side slightly with my knees bent up and lots of pillows. Can't wait to sleep on my front though. Might be a while :-(

I'm on liquid paracetamol liquid ibuprofen and codeine got a massive bag full to take home ") x

Yeah I've got the fragmin injections too. Dissolvable paracetamol and dissolvable tramadol. Paracetamol does nothing for me and the tramadol tastes awful. Luckily have some normal tramadol at home and in date so took them for the first time last night which allowed me to lie in a proper bed for the first time since the op and actually helped the gas a little too. Just looking forward to a full nights sleep now.

Has anyone heard from robina yet?

All the best to having their surgeries this coming week. Xxx

I had the worst nights sleep back home, I just couldn't get comfortable, had to keep waking my mum up to help me which made me feel bad.

One of the incisions is on a crease so it hurts like hell to bend, all the others are fine though.

I think I'll just ask for 'everything pain relief possible' based on everyones discomfort! I always think I have a high threshold but as soon as sleep deprivation kicks in which is natural when you're away from your normal surroundings & you cant get back to sleep EVERYTHING in the world seems x10 worse xxx

I have the injections too "(. Well first night at home went to bed at midnight and got up at 7 and came and got back on the sofa it's much more comfy for me there at the mo. My beds so low it took half an hour to get out with lots of pulling and stretching. Just sooo sleepy atm and I feel like I've drunk non stop yet the amount in the bottle doesn't seem to have gone down. Hope Robinas ok. Let's see what day 5 has in store for me ??

Hey all, I've been paroled!! Sorry for all the self pitying posts - this was a bit tougher than expected!

It's not liquid I can't tolerate in the morning it's my morning shower. I think my low blood count (8.2) coupled with the heat and standing is making me sick afterwards so I'll just have to be a scank until my bloods replenish!!

Roccosmummy, I was told to take my showerproof dressing off in about 3 days (8 days post op) and shower and then the wee steri strips should just fall off and no further dressing should be needed.

Managing to lie on both sides and back, still have a small amount of gas pain in right hand shoulder but mostly when I laugh. Wake up every 2 hrs thru the night to change position.

Taking paracetamols with meals and bedtime (tablets cut in half as the liquid was making me nauseas) have dissolvable tramadol for bed time (can take 2 but also makes me nauseas but I have found 1 is enough). As long as I take the pain meds regularly it's keeping the pain at bay.

Don't have to inject with blood thinners and the compression stockings are driving me mad so have been ditched today but will get them back on tomorrow!

I'm bored already but must admit quite enjoying my husband running around doing the housework!! ;)

Good luck to all those about to embark on their journey and I hope we hear from Robina soon.

Hey Dickiewickie, I can honestly say that pain has never really been a huge issue, well there was once, but only once the wind pain in my shoulder caused me to cry out but a doze of tramadol sorted that out. I was just very unlucky in that I had a post op bleed and needed a transfusion and I think it's this that has left me feeling sorry for myself!!

Do not worry, you will be fine and honestly in a week or two I KNOW I will be wondering what all the fuss was about!!

Forgive me for asking. Ypu don't have to answer ... How comes you had a post op bleed ... Is that usual. I guess I'm scaring myself now Lolxx

No worries!!
Post op bleeds are very unusual, my surgeon says that I was as dry as a bone when he closed me up but thinks that one of my port sites had perhaps nipped a blood vessel so when they retracted the equipment nothing could be seen but I was bleeding away on the inside. The blood did the right thing at least and bleed into my cavity wall ( oh my tummy is not looking good, one mahoosive bruise) they monitored my BP closely as it was very low but initially thought it was a reaction to the anesthetic but one day later they took a look at my tummy and did a blood test which confirmed I that I had been leaking and then gave me 2 units of blood.

I was just unlucky!

Honestly I am sitting here feeling quite fine and full after some Heinz tomato soup wondering what all the fuss was about!

3 hours post op. Just been for a little walk around the hospital. So far so good. Bit of discomfort but nothing too bad.

hey guys. still in hospital was in horrendous pain when came round so was sedated. only just got catheter and drip out and had tramadol capsules today so can move a little now

The pain varies massively for each person! I didn't have any. Just used fasttab tablets and fragmin blood thinners. I just had low energy.

Good to hear you're ok. It hurts I know but it will help you to recover quicker if you can keep up with the moving about. Lots of trips to the loo ;-)
Well done Claire. Take it easy xxx
