January 2014 surgeries

Has anyone had any experience of blood transfusions and waiting to your blood count to replenish. I'm probably far too impatient but I can bearly move my butt off the sofa. The total sum of today's activities are shower, 10 min walk and make the kids tea and I had to have a lie down after each. My blood count fell to 7.1, they gave me 2 units and then it raised to 8.2, had it been below 8 they would have given me more but left me and told me to take it easy and it would replenish. So tired and it is totally not helping my recovery - my head is so fuzzy!

I've no clue regarding the blood count however for the first five days I struggled with finding the energy to perform basic tasks. Exhausted and dizzy during each and resting in between. Even the bustle of kids and hubby in one room sent me spinning! Day 7 has been better but I crashed and burned early!

Feel better soon x

Thanks Victoria I am probably expecting too much. I'm usually such a quick healer and just get on with things but this has me floored :(

On the plus side I have managed a bit more fluids today, no where near what the dietitian wants but it's progress!

just remember everyone is different. Try not to measure progress against others. I did this at the beginning and drove me mad, the minute I relaxed and rested enough for me my body responded and started slowly to feel better. Don't get my wrong I'm still sleeping lots but as I see it you heal better in your sleep so can only be a good thing.

sending lots and lots of good luck your way for tomorrow clare-sleeve hun xxx

Did any1 get breathless just trying to have a conversation after their op? I keep having to stop mid sentence and say its too much effort!!

No I didn't. However I did suffer from nausea especially if I slipped down my bed and was lying too low but it settled quickly when I raised my self up into a higher position in bed. The other thing it was over a week before I could lie on my side and it's still not the most comfortable position to sleep in. Hope your feeling better soon.

Can't wait to sleep on my side.

me too, getting sore back the way ive had to sleep
same. I can just about get on my side but it feels like everything is getting pulled so worried and just stay on my back.

Not surgery related but may help...since prev surgery I've suffered with acid, on recent holiday I got sickness & upset tum bug & only way of being comfortable on back was to use travel neck pillow...I've got memory.foam one .... it may help a little x

I feel your pain! I have had a pretty rough start as well but I think I may have had a little bit of a breakthru last night and seemed to have a bit more energy, plus managed to eat and drink more than I have (still a lot less that dieticians recommendations but I'm happy!) I do however have to really concentrate on not being sick as the slightest yuck smell or the heat and effort of a shower sent me to the toilet.

It may not feel like it just now but it does get better.

Hugs

Hey Robina, how are you feeling?

Hey all. I started this thread and have been amazed at the support everyone is giving each other. I've been a little slack at keeping up with all the upcoming januaryers! This is proving to be a busy month eh?!
I'm now day 8 post revision to bypass. I've been very lucky with no complications and so far it's been a very positive experience. Of course I've had the usual and expected initial pains during the first 3 days and complete exhaustion but smooth sailing pretty much. I prepared myself for the worst which I think helped!!!
I really feel for those not having such straight forward recoveries and hope you all soon turn the corner. Lots of R&R is key and take things at your own pace.

Good luck to everyone having surgery right now.
Gentle Hugs !
Victoria x
