June 2015 Surgeries

Thanks love. :) I should be sleeping now but was reading up on the post op nausea and dehydration can be one of the reasons so decided to up my water before I turn in. I slept the whole plane journey and in the car from Edinburgh home too. Just another 250ml to go now ;)
Wow you must be tired! . You're doing much better than I was though, ive always been a water lover and never found it difficult to get in my 2ltrs a day but after op it took me 5 days to go through a 1ltr water bottle!
I did read somewhere that one of the main causes of readmission after op if not THE main cause is dehydration so definitely keep sipping hun. Hope you feek better tomorrow Xxx

Hi kayy, how are you doing? How are you finding everything post op? When do you come off liquids?
Hi! I am on liquids for2 weeks, which at the moment I am quite happy with as don't think I could stomach (no pun intended) food right about now. Waking up and mornings are definitely the hardest and most painful for me, so much pain on wake up xx how are you? X

Same here two weeks, feels about right at the moment. Scratching my head as to how to vary the liquid stage though, taste wise.

I am so bored of shakes now, they tasted so good pre-op but now I find them revolting and I'm literally gagging with every sip, lots of different soups seem very appealing right now.
Last night my son made a salad and the smell of the spring onions was wonderful, enough to make me look up a spring onion soup recipe lol! Strange because before surgery I found spring onions very off putting. X

I could not manage it all. Maybe a 100ml, then struggled with getting off to sleep as uncomfortable. Woke at 7 so maybe 4 and a bit hours. Nausea straight off but eased a little. Now back full strength yuk. Struggling with drinks. Looks like tea made me feel queasy, thats weak black no sugar lol Coffee does not taste nice either atm. Trying fruit tea. I will get there grrr.

Hi I'm having my op next Thursday 25th and doing the milk PO diet, but struggling to drink the full 4 pints a day! Anyone else having this?? X

Yeah I think soups are a good choice, most recipes you can just cut out the fat and blend until death.
I cant do protein shakes, I tried and failed, sweet shakes with fake sweetener .. Nope. I an have fruit juice and vegetable juice. I avoid tomato so think I will try my blender in a few days time.
Its trial and error hun, we will get there :)

Hi Wayne,
Welcome and good luck.
i found the LSD harder than this puree i'm on now, i hope you manage ok xxx

Hi Pauline.:wavey:
Thanks for the message of support.:happy096:
I've only got a week to go now until my full bypass. After reading some of the comments on this thread, I'm wondering if I'm going to cope okay when I get home, as a lot of you seem to have partners/family to rally around you. I live on my own in a 1st floor flat and my Patterdale Terrier is going into kennels for a week when I go to hospital:chores016:.
I'm coping okay with my LSD. Mainly sticking to powdered beef & tomato soup.
Any suggestions are most welcome.

Hey Kellou, I was on the soup & yoghurt pre op diet & didn't manage to get anywhere near what I was meant to down.
Also did 8 weeks of milk diet as part of tier 3 at addenbrookes and didn't managed to get the full 4 pints down, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just get down as much as you possibly can, it'll all be worth it :)
Good luck for the 25th :) :)

Hey Wayne, can't really give you advise as I have hubby here for a few days. But I'm a very independent person, so only using him to pull me up for loo breaks etc lol. He should be going back to work Wednesday so I'll let you know how I get on. Well done on your LSD so far, I found that particularly tough, but saying that I only had the sleeve 2 days ago so may change my mind lol lol. Good luck next week xxx

Hi Wayne. Its probably a good idea with the wee dog though ours is here and he doesn't jump up on me but I couldn't get him his proper exercise if I were on my own. I think it will just give you a little less to cope with for a few days. You will be tired and not feeling like much the first week so maybe you could try to have as much prepared for post op possible. All your dietary and medical needs within reach etc.

I am day six post bypass and yes my hubby is getting me drinks and stuff but if I had to I could do it. Cant pick anything up off the floor though and no heavy lifting for 2 months.. Everything must be accessible. One of those Handy reacher things from Argos might help ?
Can your GP help with a district nurse popping in?

Either way I wish you all the best for next week.
X

Hi Wayne!
I'm at home with my hubby and 5 kids, not had the bypass but just had the sleeve (4 days post op) hubby is taking care of kids and there needs and I'm pretty much taking care of myself. I've been ok getting in and out of bed, washing and toileting by myself, making drinks etc, although everything seems very heavy to me at the moment so get your milk in small cartoons etc. also put the items you need where they can be easily reached I.e pjs and underwear top drawer. Wishing you luck on your pre op diet.

Hi Nigglybits, weegie & kayy.
Tanks for the moral support.
I've already batch prepared and frozen my food for next month in 8oz pots.
I'm going to put fresh bedding on the bed and give the flat a good tidy before I go to hospital on Sunday. The Handy Reacher is a good idea. I'll get one tomorrow, as well as a long handled loofah for the shower now I think of it.

Wayne i'm sure you'll be fine on your own, my husband works away all week so i was on my own when i came home and although its only been 7 days since my op i've been to the shops and have to see to all my own food .....although thats a laugh, today i've had a yoghurt and a cup a soup.....didn't take much effort there.
xxxxxx

Also Wayne.....i know everyone is different but i had no pain post op what so ever, never even needed paracetamol and even 2 days post op when i came home i was managing small tasks like putting a bit washing in and doing dishes etc......I'm sure you'll be fine. xxxxx

Hi Pauline.
It's good to know someone who has gone through the full bypass so recently.
I feel a lot more assured now, thanks. I think I'm just getting more anxious the closer it gets. I've been needing the bypass since 2008 and it's hard to believe that the day is nearly here.

Pauline your a soldier! I'm day 4 and just starting to do little tasks myself, only pain I've had is backache from being in the same position all night, and gas pain when swallowing but can honestly say this evening I am feeling loads better x

Ahhhh Thank you Kay but i think i'm more a control freak than a soldier lol, I've just got to have everything done then i'm happy.

Wayne i know what you mean, the night before my op i suddenly started wondering if i was doing the right thing, i think i was really just mourning big dinners, chips etc lol.

Since my bypass i've lost just over a stone.....thats in a week !!! I know thats because i haven't really been eating and it will slow down but goodness me, i've never been able to achieve that before, i know it was the right thing to do, even though i've just been to the shop and you know the smell when you pass the bakery...i could have killed for some nice warm bread......oh well, i'm off for my chicken soup lol...

Kellou, I am hoping to have my op on the 23rd. I am nowhere near 4 pints. I am averaging about 2. I have my pre op on weds so am going to check then. Is/Was anyone else super paranoid about getting bumped? It's making me so anxious at the mo.

Crikey Pauline, I am not even stepping on the scales as have been very bloated. You're like Superwoman, well done. :D

Re the bakery, please explain why I just spent an hour looking at home made bread recipes :S
