Next step - approaching the finish line

Will definitely keep fingers crossed :)

I cringed when I posted a couple of "Before" pics on my blog. I can't wait until I can post the skinnie Minnie "After" ones! :banana dancer:

Just showed them to my youngest (without saying anything). He looked at me and said "You look different now." When asked in what way, he replied "You look thinner, and I'm not saying anything about the hair, but it's better now." lol x

You look great in the updated photos with the pink top and lighter coloured hair !!

You might not like your before photos but imagine the fun you are going to be able to have when you do get the op / get to goal ..... using all the "before and after" comparison pic apps (like www.pizap.com) and stuff !!! :) :)

None of us like our old pics and they do make us cringe but you have to put them on so you can see a difference. xx Love it Jamast xx

Back to my original hair colour now - it's very grey underneath lol. I was shocked at the old pics as I didn't think I looked any different now. Can't wait until a year post -op, now those pics I am looking forward to.

I go out of my way to avoid having my photo taken, or if anyone gets a sneaky one of me I try to crop it to show me at my best (like cropping all my chins out of a headshot:D)
But I suppose I need to get some unflattering big before photos before I have my op!
There's a big difference in your two sets of pics Jamast, you really do look better on the second set, you've obviously lost weight and your natural hair colour is lovely!
And yes I agree about the 1 year pst op photos, I bet there's no one on this forum who isn't excited about seeing theirs :)

Thank You. I also hate having my picture taken and avoid as much as possible - but I always have done, even as a child. I'm generally a gurner, if I see someone near me with a camera and I pull a stupid face. Very childish, I know, but they soon get the picture (no pun intended) lol.

Off to see dietician - fingers crossed x

Absolutely shattered, 6 hours travel on public transport for a 20 minute appt - and thats local!!!
Anyway, positive visit to see dietician. She thinks my diet is fine and easily compatible with bariatric surgery. And so, she is recommending that the PCT fund my op. She thinks I should see the surgeon by Sept at the latest. In the meantime, I need to lose another 23 lbs if I want the op locally - reduce BMI as much as possible as they don't like it above 59 or 60 at the most down here.

I almost forgot to add this - She did annoy me though as she says that 'they' (whomever 'they' may be) are now discovering that bypassers almost always put the weight back on, plus they rarely get below about 15 stone. This seems to go against everything I have read, watched, researched, talked about etc.

People do regain if they aren't careful. And I have been told 15 stone and with hard work an exercise maybe even 10. It is up to the individual.

That's more or less what I said to her lol. I also asked her to justify her comments about people expecting way too much from WLS when my current goal is to get below 20 stone. She commented on a remark I made years ago when I said that overall I would love to get to what I was when I got married - which was around 15 or 16 stone. Apparently she feels this is too ambitious. I just wanted to scream lol.

I just feel that there are way too many people in the WL 'business' (private or NHS) who do their best to put those stuggling with their weight even further down. Her reply - well apparently, she doesn't believe in WLS!!!!

Finally I have something to write here again. Although I've a whoopee and another moan lol.

First the whoopee; I've been sent a copy of a letter that the consultant has now sent to the surgeon. It clearly states that I have had funding approved (although I have yet to receive any confirmation) and she is asking the surgeon to consider me for surgery (I thought the surgery was a given once funding was in place?). Anyway, she does say that she feels I am a prime candidate, and admits that I had no co-morbidities to begin with but now my arthritis, etc is being affected by my weight and I would benefit from the surgery.

Which brings me to the moan;

The woman is still displaying her ignorance and bloomin' incompetence. In the letter she states that I 'absolutely refused' (her wording) a c-pap for sleep apnoea - a total fabrication. When I had the sleep study a few years ago now, I was informed by the doctor that I had what appeared to be such a minor, struggling to meet borderline apnoea, that it was an absolute waste of time to have the c-pap. So, after further discussion, and based on his advice, I said I wouldn't bother then, but should I begin to notice or be affected by any apnoea symptoms, then I would call him and take the c-pap. She also claims that although I initially lost weight, I did put some back on and then lost it again, but that I apparently weigh more now than I did at the beginning of this journey!!!! How can weighing over three and a half stones lighter than I did when I saw the first consultant and reducing my BMI from 73 to 65 (or was it 75 to 65 - it's on record somewhere) mean that I weigh more?

Frustrating that she still ignores what is actually on record and writes from her obviously failing memory - but on the other hand I am back to being nervous (but happy).

This is fab news honey! The surgery is not, unfortunately a given once you have funding - you still have to go through the MDT (multidisciplinary team) panel. They will assess your medical and psychological suitability for the surgery and if they are happy then you will be given the surgery. If not they may suggest some CBT or medical intervention - ie CPAP if they feel its necessary. If you're worried about the rubbish she's writing write to the hospital yourself :) Your foot is in the door - the next bits a doddle compared to getting funding.

Thanks Yvessa - I've already written to the GP;PCT and the consultant herself about her uselessness. It does seem to have put a foot up her backside in finally getting my funding sorted - but otherwise, she carries on regardless. I am going to see my GP and ask him to contradict her lol.

Good for you :) But the surgeon probably won't bother reading her letter lol

Wow, what a story! You really have been through so much. I hope they speed things up now and finally sort things out for you :)

Hi all. Have now received a letter 'inviting' me to a compulsory meeting with a bariatric nurse to decide what surgery would be best for me - aaaarrrggghhhh. I am booked for a bloody bypass!!! Sorry, but you would think that after 5 years they would have actually got that bit.

Following the meeting, I get an appt for my multi-disciplinary meeting with surgeon etc - so all does appear to be in hand.

On top of all this, I've been for the results of some blood tests today and it seems that I have an underactive thyroid and may have for almost 20 years (the GP has looked back through my notes and discovered that this first showed up in the 80's and yet I have been repeatedly told that I have no thyroid problems. She did say that this will not affect the surgery - so that's good.

What a pita! Hope your thyroid gets sorted - does the appointment mean you finally have your funding??
