November 2013 Surgeries

Sounds quite unusual! Hope it's all ok.

I'm not sleeping either and being sick a lot trying new foods. Not nice :( xx

Just human error and bad luck! So my pouch might , now be as small as yours not that it set out to be! :) sorry to hear the foods aren't going down so well. You seem to be food sensitive don't you is that new or have you always been a bit that way?

I seriously didnt think it would be that bad! Was abit gutted to be honest. Drank some of my son's extra diluted squash - yuck!
When you're out and about oasis light or Ribena light are pretty good choices.

Hope you start to heal well.

It's pretty new. Always reacted badly to deep fried stuff etc but yes I seem to be very sensitive. It's very frustrating xx

HI Muizenberg, just wondering how you got on with your op. As I am also under Kings and Avril Chang. Just wondering what the process is. I have had my appointment with the surgeon and have been confirmed as being on the waiting list. My next appointment is 5th March. How long was your hospital stay? How long will you be off work? Sorry to ask but I`m just trying to sort things out in my head. Thanks in advance.

No it was all a bit of a blur I need to speak to home again. I think they stapled a bit of tubing from the suction or endoscope they put in stomach. Not sure how much more they took. Hope to see him tomorrow but he has a full day of surgery so he might send mr carter to check on me ( your surgery) as you can see I can't sleeps d swallow saliva hurts in chest otherwise not to bad. Watch this space. Just really nervous now about leaks! X

Mr Carter is HOTT!!! :D He'll take the pain away hehe :p Hmm yeah, I noticed the time you posted the messages. How are you now? Have you managed any fluids?

Neither of those was on sale! It was all full fat apart from like diet coke etc I bought a sports bottle a couple if weeks ago, just need to get in the habit of keeping it filled and emptied!

Does any ine else struggle with that first meal breakfast . I really have to force my self to eat and then feel just yuck for about 30 mins.

Yes I do, ive always had issues with breakfast. So not surprised I still do now. I cant get up in the mornings so my "breakfast" isn't until 12ish! Think I need to see someone about that too x

Ok so the mystery is over it was a temperature prob that was inadvertently stapled to my remaining stomach and then had to be cut out! I'm having gastrographfin tomorrow to check for leaks. Leaks are in there words "catastrophic" so lets hope there isn't one. X

Hi

Ask away. They are very friendly on here and always will to share information. I'm nearly 2 weeks post op and admittedly finding certain elements a struggle but learning daily. Looking forward to the puree stage.

I was discharged two days after surgery. The incisions (4) are quite small, largest is 2" and healing nicely.
Met Dr Chang a few times , incl twice following surgery. Her colleague Dr Singh who carried out the ward rounds is very funny. Hopefully you might be admitted to Copcoat ward which has only been open a month and is spacious and geared up for bariatric surgeries / patients.

I've taken a month off work and they recommend six weeks but this will differ dependent on your lifestyle , job etc. Really glad made the decision to have a gastric sleeve and wish had considered years ago but only had a lightbulb moment prior to starting initial journey in 2011 and learning more about it in the media. Kings could improve on the support offered as I heard nothing from joining list until just prior to being offered a surgery date. Several previous dates were refused due to short notice and work commitments and really wanted to complete a pre op diet beforehand. Probably beneficial to try and maintain regular contact with Pauline Smith who manages Dr Chang's appointment as managed to negotiate the most suitable dates especially given the suggested waiting times of 12- 15 months. As your next appointment is March would suggest reading , researching and make a list of questions .Hope this helps.

I know , have a cry , take the meds . Try and push negative thoughts away , until you know What is happening .do you want me to come up and see you ? Xx

Thanks Kim but remember your still recovering and should be looking after yourself! Not that I don't want to meet up! Feel better today got a bit of sleep and I've had a walk round just got to wait for the test today. What I am looking forward to is us meeting up for a coffee/ milky drink/ NAS :) not like you haven't had enough on your plate with your mum. Just keep me positive on here for now. X thanks so much. X

Thank everyone. It a bit of a scary time but they Sri looking after me. Big day today (leak test) so watch and await time
