November 2014 Surgeries

Well done all of you recent surgery peeps. I'm feeling like a real oldie as it will be one week later today
Drinks - I now sip without thinking and can drink a full cup of tea, I cant cope with coffee but am having occasional latte. I've had 2 slim fast and one cup a soup today plus tea with milk and water so am managing around 2 litres of fluid
Toileting habits - am pleased to say no constipation but loose stools and regular wees !! Too much info :(
Wind/ Pain - only in shoulders, more like a dull throb rather than acute. In one week post op only needed pain relief once, have benefitted from a heat pad
wounds -dressings off and all healing nicely. There is more bruising from my injections than from surgery !!
Hunger I've not felt at all but I do keep wanting to eat "solid" food, this is after years of yo-yoing VLC liquid diets. I did chew a tiny bit of pasta bake then spat it out after tasting it !!
I honestly cannot believe how well I'm feeling and how quickly I have recovered from the surgery. today was my last anticoagulant injections and I'm planning to ditch the embolism stockings tomorrow
Maggy, Purplepippa9 and Mizkirsty take it very easy and I hope you are feeling fitter and stronger.

and especially thinking of the remain Novemberers........xx

They kept me in an extra night as I was dehydrated and my bp keeps dropping. Still some discomfort but I think it's mostly gas.

I'm not in any pain. Just extremely Uncomfy from the gas! I did take the pain killers they gave me this morning but they're a bit strong so will be sticking to paracetamol now. No hunger which is great.

Uncomfy night due to sciatica (only position I could get comfy in due to port aggravated it!).

But overall great considering. Looking forward to the wind going.
No dizziness until I took the painkillers. Hence why I'm gonna stick to paracetamol.

So glad I've done it and can begin to heal.

Xxx

Must admit I'm not looking forward to the wind pain! Take care and keep us updated x

Day 3 of preop half a stone down! Feeling motivated now

Well done Gweni. That's does motivate you. I've not weighed myself at home as husband has hidden the scales which I'm pleased about, as they were welded to my feet! I did not want to get on them and think if I'd not lost there was no point, so I would rush off and rummage the cupboards!

Well end of day 1 post op and I've managed to get myself into a right tizz!!

I've over done it. Went for a short walk around tesco with oh. With only my pain killers from 7am. Then this evening I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack heart racing felt like it would come through my chest - but I didn't feel like I was in pain just bloated.

My oh made me take some pain killers he was getting worried and it's all settled and I feel great again - think I was having a panic Bc the pain was out of control - although I didn't feel like I was in that much pain if that makes any sense!!

Spoken to the nurse and she's told me to rest and keep up with the pain relief!

I've only managed one shake over the day with plenty of clear fluid. It's all I've needed. She said this could last a few days!

I'm worried how much water should I take in one amount. Obv I'm sipping but if I take 100mls over 5mins sipping would this stretch my pouch or does water go straight through into my stomach?

Xxx

hay im the same. im only managing around 500mls per day (thats everything). feel realy uncomfy like a mega stitch and back ache. I think its normal. I hope u feel better soon x

Oh good. It's reassuring to hear I'm not the only one. Thanks :)

That makes me feel better. Xxx

if ur anything like me....I thought id be completely back to normal within a day but now 4dpo and its a slow process of getting better. but hopefuly be back to norm withing a week or so. good luck x

JLB & mizkirsty - it's still very early days! I am a week bypassed today! I am still getting the odd stitch like pain when walking sometimes it can come on even after a few steps, sometimes not. And I still have some general discomfort from the incision sites. Please take it easy and be kind to yourselves. I am usually rubbish at being kind to myself because I'm a busy working mummy and I always put myself last on the list to look after. This week I have put my soft recovery right at the top of my list and have taken it easy. I didn't feel I got the best start having to stay an extra night in hospital so I have been conscious to make progress this week without overdoing it. I have been fortunate as my mum has helped out a lot so today is the first day I have been out since coming home Sunday avo.
Be kind and don't push too hard!
Well done to everyone this week who has gone to theatre and heading for the losers bench!
As Sharona says we are half way through our November list now!

ur right mrsg. my kids have come home today so mums staying to help tomo as hubby in work. its a bit sore but ok. I just had realy runny cornedbeef mash and gravy. was amazing. its not adviced yet but I cannot get enough liquids down. feling better for it. x

Yes deffo over did it today. Went out and should have had a day of rest really. And deffo should have taken my meds regular - won't be making that mistake tomorrow!

Bc it's felt like windy pain I figured the pain killers wouldn't help. And they really make me drowsy which I don't like. They literally knock me out!

But actually I'm paying for an active day without pain killers. And I think this is the reason I felt so bad and fainty last night perhaps!

We live and learn hey!

I've managed to keep well hydrated - not peed much at all though :/ and managed one shake!

I'm worried fluid may over stretch my band! Or does fluid go straight through a band? Xx
