November 2014 Surgeries

Well xmas and new year have been a bit difficult with both parents now unwell. Doesn't help that we live in three different countries! With all this I lost a little and put it back on over the past few weeks but have decided to start afresh today. Including downloading the couch potato to 5k app on my phone. Wish me luck! I'm off for my first run! Who'd have thought I would ever utter those words ;0)

My thoughts are with all of you who are having a difficult time at present. Hang in there! <hugs>

PS. I started a 'couch potato to 5K' thread in exercise and fitness if anyone is interested in how it goes

I done two days of running for a min and jogging for two on the app. It half killed me. Respect to you Maggie. I am working up the gumption to start again

Hi Class of Nov 14 hows everyone doing?? As for me started gym yesterday and today I feel so well and refreshed and cant wait to go for my walk later. ( as leaving a day between the gym to rest some 0f my muscles!) I'm hoping to shift at least half a stone between now and end if Jan more if i can! So for discussion : 1.What are your goals for this month ?? 2.And are you all pleased with your weight loss so far? 3. And was you glad the type of surgery you had ie bypass/ sleeve/ band?? Looking forward to hearing from each of you soon. X

Hi Sharona sounds like you're doing great!!!
I've not worried about exercise just yet as still unsure on food intake!! But I have a new gym opening locally in feb that I'm joining yay.
Glad you're doing so well x

Hi everyone. Havmt said much recently but have been reading all the notifications I get. Sound like ur all doing really well. Its hard ant it breaking old habits but worth it.
My goal is to get half a stone off by end of Jan, that will take me to 3 stone loss. Need another fill in my band now so portions getting bigger ATM. Booked in for 20th. Don't regret my band one bit. Its changing my life and will make my bladder op (prob march) much more successful. Havmt weighed for about a week as scales broke so guna keep off them until my fill and hopefully have a nice surprise.
Joining a gym next week as not doing any excersise at the mo.
Good luck to all of u x

I know it sounds like a cop-out but I have to sort out a decent sports bra first - don't want to end up with 2 black eyes!!

Yeah, PP. Not a good look ;0) I found a good one in sainsbury's of all places. Have started buying my bras there as I'm going through sizes a bit quickly and can't justify the expense!

Well done Sharona for getting to the gym! I'm
With you re the muscle soreness! Need to be kind between workouts.

Goals? I'd also like another half stone off by end of Jan. I feel I've stagnated for about a month but when I look at the last month's loss it's actually 6 pounds, so not too bad with all that's been going on. And I love my sleeve! Still getting used to it and not always sure when I'm full until I've overdone it - but learning. It's definitely the best thing I've done for my health in a long long time.

Hello all. First day back at work yesterday after Christmas and New Year break. I did not even reach my desk when I was 'confronted' by the PA to my boss. She said she could not believe how much weight I had lost. She asked me what I was doing, was I on a special diet. I looked at her because I was completely caught off guard and told her it was due to all the stress I was under. I could tell by the look on her face that she didn't believe me. We stood looking at each other for 10 seconds and then she changed the subject. Later on one of the members of my team passed a remark that it was really noticeable that I had lost a lot of weight. I thought I had disguised things well and that no one would notice but clearly not.

I am just going to have to brazen it out and if anyone says anything else just trot out the same line. I know I have lost inches because I am pinning my skirts to keep them up. Still sorting through my clothes from the move and looking for smaller sizes. I am determined not to buy any more clothes - call me mean:D.

I am determined to try and keep my intake up and so am taking some thicker soup, a protein shake and a WW yoghurt or fromage frais with me and I space them out through the day. So far it is working. Just need to drink some water in between as my water intake is almost zero.

Hope everyone is ok. Sharona as to your questions - I do not have any goals - I am just so thankful to have been given a second chance and I do not intend to screw it up:D. I want to start some form of exercise but I need to get a better grip on my intake and get over this tiredness I have - that will take time. The sleeve has been something of a revelation for me. I thought it would lead to slower weight loss having had a band but it is proving very effective for me. The acid reflux is being controlled by the medication so I am thankful for that.

Well done all. And hugs to those having a rough time. My goal is to get my first fill and get back to normality ive been eating alone in my room because I'm ashamed and ive been pbing a lot because I shovel things in still so need to slow it down. I'm going to focus on slowing down and really trying to eat with family again. Also started some walking.

How long have you been of work and how much have you lost for them to notice.:)

I have told no one apart from Mr TB about this surgery - not even my family. I took 8 days annual leave to cover the op and some recovery time and then I went back to work. I have worked from home as much as I can and had a couple more days leave when we moved in December - then it was Christmas. So with some careful juggling I have not been in much. I had an extended pre op due to my dad dying etc and for some reason it was not so noticeable that I had lost weight and people who did notice put that down to grief which is partly true.

However all of a sudden my body has decided to show how much has come off and having had a good look at myself tonight I can see now why it is being noticed. I am not into weighing as I do not want to get scale obsessed. I think I have dropped at least a couple of dress sizes - on the bottom at least - my bust is always the last place I lose weight and they have certainly shrunk a bit. Sorry I cannot be more specific about the weight loss. I have my first post op appointment on 16 January so I will have my official hospital figures then. I did see my team last week when I was having acid reflux problems and they weighed me then but then they could not find my op date weight - so were a bit vague but said I had lost weight!

I haven't read all you posts were you meant to have a bypass but there was a change while you were under, I was given that option but mine went ahead. Well done and I love your answers to the PA, hope it continues the way you want :)

Way back 4 years ago when I had my first WLS I was supposed to have a bypass and woke up with a band. Never got to the bottom of what happened and after lots of problems and finally having to have a total defill they agreed to revision surgery - removal of band and a sleeve.

On the day of the op they suggested they should try and do a bypass. I was not too happy but went with the suggestion but they did the sleeve and I am more than happy with it.

At some point I am going to have to tell my family the truth. They are going to be hurt but I hope once I have explained why I hid this from them they will understand and forgive me. I realise I am not going to now get away with convincing them that I am losing just by following a diet.
