It happens a lot, mine was cancelled as I stood outside the operating theatre door. Mine was cancelled because another bariatric patient was bleeding to death internally and needed the theatre more than I did. In retrospect I'm glad that mine was cancelled and their life was saved. I'd never have forgiven myself if the other person had died because I'd taken the last theatre slot available.
Yes it is horrible when you get cancelled and very often inconvenient too but if saving someones life means we have to wait a few weeks longer then so be it. We got ourselves in this state over a long time and a few weeks more isn't going to make any difference in the long run. Hope it all goes smoothly for you next time.
